I know a few of the ladies in the store. Before Covid I was what you would call a regular. While I was in the store the owner had asked me to leave because I am exempt from mask restrictions. I have been coming for 5 years now. I understand that every Business man or woman has the right to set their own rules for their business. As well as every individual in this country has the right to exercise their own beliefs. Which goes along with wearing a mask. Just as well as if I was African American in 1950 and would’ve been asked to leave a store. I was treated as an outsider and was asked to leave immediately. Then the police were called on me for breaking the law. I did not break any laws and I left on my own. I have been going to this bakery for 5 years now. I’m aware there are more frequent customers however I have built a relationship with some of the idividuals in there and as I was being asked to leave in a derogatory manor the individuals I did know just out their head down and watched by. University Bakery is taking the next step towards socialistic and derogatory behavior. In a world wear individuals need to be coming together instead of tattle tailing and following. The university bakery square deli is not leading by example but rather following by example. Whether it is the right example or not. They have just thrown out a customer who had been going for 5 years. Loves all of them very much. Really loves the sandwiches. Probably one of their most loving customers of the products they actually make. They just threw him out because of his medical exemptions. Then I ask you who has liberties because University Bakery and Deli certainly didn’t make me feel like a productive member of society. They made me feel like a piece of poo and that is not what anyone...
Read moreTheir chocolate horn, brownie, and peanut butter cookie were nice. They have a lot of variety of desserts! They also sell loaves of bread, buns, meat, cheese, frozen meals, premade garlic bread, bagged cookies, ready-to-eat sausage rolls and quiches, and drinks. It is like a mini (but packed) grocery store! There are no prices posted, but it is surprisingly cheap. I was stunned at how many things I came home with for the amount of money I paid.
Not Prefer: Their pastries were a little hard at the end of the day, and some of them had very little filling for the amount of pastry, so I won't buy these again.
Prices: My 8 items (2 cookies, huge pastry, apple pie pastry, brownie, horn, ball, and turnover) came to $20.32 with the taxes included!
Dining: Takeout, no indoor or outdoor dining. Catering available.
Staff: There was a lovely girl that assisted me at the bakery counter. She went out of her way to help me. Her personal favourite was the brownie.
Parking: The store is in a free...
Read moreWe stopped by University Square Bakery today for some deli meats and bread. My husband picked out 4 different cuts, and I got a day-old sliced bread loaf for $2.99. However, when we got home and opened the loaf, we were disappointed to find a huge hole in the center - it looked more like a doughnut bread than a regular loaf! Given the price, we expected better quality.
The staff, particularly the two ladies who served us, were friendly and attentive, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. However, the product quality issue was a major letdown. Unfortunately, driving back to return it wasn't feasible, so we made do. Hopefully, they'll take steps to improve their quality control.
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Poor bread quality, misleading product
Won't be back,...
