I've long said that 2 Crows is my favourite brewery in Nova Scotia and Yeah Yeahs is my favourite pizza place, and I was pleased to discover that the whole is even greater than the sum of its amazing parts.
The space feels like a retro Italian cafe, as inviting by day as it is by night, with pink and green walls and warm, round lights. I'd heard that the tables feel too close together. To me, that really embraces the European-style of dining, where strangers become friends as conversations all blend into one. For those who'd prefer a little more space, there's a long bar and seating against the window that's great for people watching.
Discussing 2 Crows' seasonal beers in a review can serve as a bit of a tease for future visitors who may miss out on them, but the Alright, Alright, Alright Farmhouse Ale and Feral Fox Tart Wild Ale are two of the better 2 Crows beers that I've had in recent memory, both fresh, fruity, and complex.
There are plenty of tamer, more refreshing beers that pair well with Yeah Yeahs' pizza. The slices I had were delicious, with that creamy cheese atop a thin, crispy, foldable, lightly charred dough held together by a thick, chewy crust.
The three servers I met on the Monday following the wild February snowstorm were all charming, knowledgeable, and efficient, going the extra mile during the dinner rush.
Now for the critical part of the review... here it comes... Yeah Yeahs is serving up a delicious Caesar salad at this location, BUT the bowl that they serve the side salad in is too small. I had to put my empty pizza plate beneath the bowl to catch the toppling croutons.
However, don't let a few errant croutons deter you from visiting this Oxford Street taproom and pizza place the next...
Read moreNot too bad of an experience, definitely more suited for lunches. Food was great (it did take an hour but they told us it would) but the space is REALLY crowded. You legit are so close to the next table you may as well be seated with them. To get out of the booth side you basically have to ask the people beside you to move. No space whatsoever and kind of uncomfortable to be elbow length beside the next table. Definitely not set up well for in person dining. The pizza barely can fit on a table with a beer.
Will definitely try again at a lunch hour or something but if it’s evening I may just do to go...
Read moreThe 2 Crows and Yeah Yeahs crews created a space that the West End truly needed. The space is warm and welcoming, the beers (as always) are fantastic, and the pizza is incredible.
Having a new spot to hang my hat is going to be incredible, specially within walking distance to my house. This addition to the neighborhood is going to bring folks together over two of the greatest things made by two of the greatest businesses in...
