Look Ho Ho Restaurant — Restaurant in Halifax

Ordered pickup of a c11 tonight, General Tao chicken and rice with an egg roll. The 1st thing I noticed when I got home and opened it up, was the orange-red color. No spicy smell that usually accompanies this dish. I dug in eagerly and was immediately assaulted with a Sweetness overload! It was sweet and sour sauce, not Gen Tao. So I decided it was worth the drive to go back and get the correct dish. I called the restaurant and the woman who answered was the same one who waited on me, (and I tipped) I told her I had received the wrong sauce on my food and she put me on hold for 30 seconds and then came back and told me she gave me the right food. I reiterated that it was sweet and sour not Gen Tao. She asked if the chicken was in balls, I confirmed it was not in balls but pieces of battered chicken. She said if it was sweet and sour it would be in balls and red. I confirmed it indeed was red. She essentially called me a liar, said she packed it and it was fine and too bad for me! I advised that I would be leaving this review as I'm tired of spending my hard earned money at places that have no integrity. This place has NONE!! I'm sad because I loved the General Tao chicken there. But eating (because I was hungry) sickly sweet & sour and the complete lack of customer service has convinced me to never waste a dime in this establishment again! TIP: if ordering take out, check the order yourself before you leave the restaurant because they WILL NOT...

Best Chinese food in Halifax!! Their food is always very HOT and freshly made. Their combos are great portion sizes at awesome prices. I've tried all their "American Chinese" classics; my favourite is their beef and broccoli. Huge pieces of beef and the broccoli is still crisp. The sweet and sour chicken (chicken balls) is very yummy, the right amount of chicken to batter.

My family has been ordering from this place for years and while they have gone through ups and downs in terms of quality, there has been consistently good food from this location for the last 3 years since the change in ownership.

Highly recommend Look Ho Ho to anyone looking for delicious, hot, fresh Chinese food for take out or eat in. Make sure to order an extra egg roll!

Review edit as of April 30 - arrived at Look Ho Ho at 8:08pm on April 25 wanting to eat in. The girl working the counter was VERY hesitant to "let" us sit down and tried to insist we order take out. We told her we'd be done long before closing time. We could tell our presence annoyed her and that she was irritated we chose to eat in. We ordered, ate, paid, and were walking out the door at 8:38. 30 minutes all in. Exactly the sort of quick experience I'd expect from Look Ho Ho. But was disappointed with the staff that didn't want to let us eat in even though it was 52 minutes...

This was honestly a bit of a surprise!

The decor is well lit, and well spaced. There is pretty ample seating as well.

The menu overall is fairly large with the standard affair of westernized chinese food. We ordered a hot and sour soup with a combo set. Most of the items were very well priced.

The soup and combo we got had large portions!

The service was very good, exceptionally quick!

Given the menu the food was very well done. The hot and sour soup had a good variety of ingredients granting it a nice flavor, the BBQ pork slices are there in pretty good quantities and the mushrooms really help flavor the soup with extra umami . A minor complaint is that it's a bit thick for what I'm use to in this style of soup.

The combo dish was as expected but well done. The chicken dish had a reasonable ratio of chicken vs bean sprout, the chicken ball was excellent a great ratio of batter and chicken with the batter being nice and crispy outside. The fried rice is cool with beef which is different from the normal chicken fried rice but it is good! The egg roll is pretty standard, good crunch but the filling could be better.

Overall if you are hungry for some western chinese food at a great price give it...
