I would like to preface this review but stating that I understand that no establishment can guarantee that a food allergen won’t be present if they carry that food item, and that I understand the risk of ordering food when someone has an allergy. Also that we do take our own precautions when eating out at a restaurant.
My partner and I frequent Cora’s, but my partner has a severe allergy to apples. We have never had any issues in the past and the staff have been very pleasant in trying to accommodate our orders at other locations. Today we ordered and I told the server (didn’t catch his name but was the only employee serving that was dressed in all black) that my partner is “deathly allergic to apples”. He said ok and went away.
Our food arrives and my plate has apples on it even though I have stated the allergy at the table. So as a precaution I heavily salted my plate and called the server back and requested to not have any apples as I have stated that there is an allergy. So he promptly blames me for not telling him that the entire table didn’t want apples and that by saying my partner is allergic that means only his food would come without apples.
He takes the plate back to the kitchen and come back 3 minutes later with the same heavily salt plate of food that I had originally but without the apple, and a new side plate of food on the side. So I still had all of the cross contaminated food that I’ve already stated I had an issue with. He claimed it was new and a fresh plate (which is why I heavily salted it so I would know if it hadn’t been changed) and that it should be fine.
We refused to eat and just ended up leaving, with yet another lecture about how I should order properly next time.
Honestly I was appalled by the blatant disregard for someone’s safety and fearful at the lack of understanding how cross contamination works. As well as the inability to comprehend the severity of the situation. At no point did he ask for clarification, completely refused to have my food remade (even though he stated it had been), and never once comprehended how his action could have...
Read moreWent to Cora’s to meet a friend with my son two weeks ago.
Upon ordering I told the server “no mushrooms, I have a mushroom allergy” He said “okay I’ll make a note of it”
Get food a little while later, start to dig in, there’s mushroom in my food. My friend jumped up and ran to Sobeys to get Benadryl while I sat with my son while having an allergic reaction.
When I informed my server he said “oh I’ll have a new one made” and he did which i guess is fine but I heard him tell the kitchen “I need a new omelette, no mushrooms, it’s my fault” so he clearly didn’t even relay the message when he punched it in and STILL DIDNT TELL THE KITCHEN I HAVE AN ALLERGY.
New food is made, I don’t really touch it cause I’m in the middle of a reaction and now I’m scared to eat at Cora’s. My friend gets back and I take the Benadryl.
When the server came to clear the plates he asked what we were doing with the rest of the day and I said “probably sleeping cause I’ve had to take allergy meds” and he said “oh so you have an allergy problem?”
Anyway, DO NOT EAT AT CORAS IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES THEY DO NOT...
Read moreI’ve been to a few different Cora’s locations but this was my first time at the Lacewood location. I thought I was being pranked. It wasn’t overly busy which was nice. There seemed to be plenty of staff but we waited and waited and waited to have our order taken. Our coffee was brought to us about 15 minutes after our order was taken. Our server either took a handful of gummies that morning or it was the first day with his new tongue. He struggled to speak and had zero customer service. The tables around us were filthy along with the floors, and the bathrooms were horrendous. We were asked if it would be one bill or two and we’re told he’d be right back. As the tumbleweeds blew through, 15 minutes later, no server, no bill. We decided to head to the checkout. Our server strolled over, processed our bill and didn’t speak a word even though I tried with pleases and thank you’s. This whole experience took a 1hr and 50 minutes. For pancakes!? The only way I’ll darken the doors of that location is if I stumbled over from the liquor store after downing a bottle or three of Pinot not knowing...
