A Culinary Gem in Halifax - Downtown Village Club Delivers an Authentic Indian Experience

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Downtown Village, and I must say, it was one of the best Indian meals I've ever had. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance that immediately set the tone for the evening. The pictures adorning the walls beautifully captured the rich tapestry of Indian culture, making us feel as though we were transported to India itself.

We started our meal with the Banjara Murg Kebab and Seekh Vegetarian Kebab, both of which were exceptional. The Banjara Murg Kebab was perfectly spiced, tender, and juicy, while the Seekh Vegetarian Kebab was a delightful surprise, offering a flavorful and satisfying option for vegetarians.

For the main course, we indulged in the Dal Makhani, Garlic Naan and Hyderabadi Murg Biryani. The Dal Makhani was creamy, rich, and had a depth of flavor that spoke to its authenticity. The Hyderabadi Biryani, with its fragrant basmati rice and perfectly cooked pieces of chicken, was amazing.

The service was equally impressive. The staff were attentive, friendly, and ensured that we were well taken care of throughout our meal. We were served in a timely manner, which only added to the overall positive experience.

I recently dined at Downtown Village , and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with traditional Indian decor that immediately sets the tone for an authentic dining experience. Soft Indian music in the background adds to the cozy atmosphere.

The menu at Downtown Village is extensive, offering a wide range of dishes from various regions of India. I started with the vegetable samosas,which were perfectly crisp on the outside and filled with a deliciously spiced potato mixture. For the main course, I tried the Murg Makhani and Dal Makhani both were outstanding. The Murg Makhani had a rich, creamy sauce with just the right amount of spice, while the Dal Makhani was flavorful.The garlic naan was the perfect accompaniment, buttery and soft, with a slight char that added to its flavor.

The service was impeccable. The staff was attentive without being intrusive and were more than happy to make recommendations. They were also quick to refill water glasses and check in to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.

The prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food. It's a great value for money, and the portions are generous.

I was pleased with the extreme kind service of the staff and servers as went with seniors with wheelchair and with a lift in place it was so easy. Ambience is all with ancient Indian Maharaja/Maharani decor with antiques at display. Good but yes could have some words to explain who is whom and from which kingdom, but in short mini palatial feel. What was not so pleasant is the comfort of sitting on a sofa and table while eating. Access and mobility isssue people needs more support and upright chairs to sit while eating. I guess some sitting arrangements can be rearranged. Coming to the food, appteiziers were On a very salty note but when asked they made sure the entrees were on point and cooked to our taste. Although the base and gravy/curry was very sweet and tastes exactly same for Paneer, Prawns and chicken; contrary to what’s mentioned as spicy. In short if you want authentic North Indian spicy food, make sure to get them notified with those specifics. Definitely in comparison to other restaurants in town, this is on a high price point and ofcourse not justifying the Quantity for the worth of money.
