While their sushi is affordable and they give complimentary plates, they are pretty consistent with the bad service. I've been there three times: the first time we went, the server was too busy chatting with a customer couple that she took a long time to attend to our orders. And I guess I was pretty obvious with how irate and hungry I was, so when she served us our complimentary dish, she said "here's some complimentary sushi from the kitchen to make sure there's enough food on your table." I just thought that it was rude for her to say that.
The last time we attempted to eat there again, I called for reservations at 6pm for a 7pm dinner. The lady who picked up the phone said they were not busy so it did not make sense to make a reservation and advised that we come in whenever we want to. I tried to insist on a reservation but she said she was pretty sure it won't be busy by 7pm. Come 7pm, the place is packed. I called them again hoping the person who would answer would remember me. But a different lady answered and told me that they never take reservations 2 hours before a schedule. I told her about what the person in their restaurant said about when I called earlier for a reservation and she insisted they never take reservations 2 hours prior. I was so upset because that was not what I had been advised earlier. If they told me that earlier, I wouldn't have wasted my time going there. I don't think I will go back...
Read moreNot enough stars on Google to justify what this place deserves. Don't be fooled by its humble venue - Wasabi House has the best sushi in all of Nova Scotia. This is not hyperbole or exaggeration - I'm pretty sure I've tried them all, and no one else comes close!
Regardless of what you order, you are going to get more than you ask for (ie. bonus rolls, bonus pieces). The fish is absolute 100% fresh and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The sashimi 'piece' is easily the equivalent of two pieces anywhere else. No need to ask for extra wasabi and ginger, they have you covered.
Superb staff (local and international), very friendly, very prompt, and very knowledgeable about their product. You'll get more than you asked for; at least I did both times I ordered from them.
At this time, they're take-out only, but still highly recommended. For what it's worth, there's a Garrison tap house across the street with tables that welcomes sushi diners.
You'll see in the tags that I spent $20-$30 per person. That's because I'm nuts about sushi and always order lots (too much lol). You can get a satisfying lunch for $10-$15, and can easily eat your fill in the evening for around $20.
10/5 stars from me. I don't throw around stars lightly. Wasabi House deserves the accolade for sure.
Thank you!

Read moreWasabi house is an institution + a workhorse of a sushi place. The space is 1//3 for pickup and take away with 2 tables set up in the front for that exclusively and tables further back where you can sit.
My gripe, is that they do things a little differently. There's too much rice + it's warm. When you get a sushi: rice with fish on top, the rice is the size of 2-3 sushis and the fish is thickly sliced and barely stays on when you go to pick it up. In my mind a sushi should be a mouthful, carefully balanced so you're not getting too much of any one ingredient, not something you need to carefully bite so you don't pull it apart on your next bite. Like my sushi has a thick piece of sashimi on it with another thinner slice underneath. . .
On the OTHER hand, it's made quickly, they do a high volume of orders and they always include freebies. Last time I went I was given extra cucumber and avocado rolls. They super sized my meal to two meals, on the house.
Worth going to, would recommend. But it's really it's whole own thing. Be...
