The Red Asian Fusion Restaurant 鸿运 (HongYun) — Restaurant in Halifax

My Chinese co-worker recommended this place and I'm glad we went. Food is authentic Chinese and even though the dishes were heavy on the sauce, each had a distinct savoury flavour.

It's also well priced because of the portion size. There was 6 of us and we ordered 6 dishes + white rice + 2 drinks and we were all stuffed with a bit of take home. Our bill was only short of $150 including tax, but excluding tip.

Service was great and the owners/servers were very pleasant. They paid attention to our needs, more water and napkins, etc. without having to ask for them; they just knew and they delivered! Sooo much better than getting interrupted asking "how is everything and do you need anything?".

5/5 stars! Hong Yun's food, atmosphere and customer experience, all in unison, is namely one of the best in Halifax. My Chinese friend said their food reminds him of his hometown. The Red's customer service is somewhat Asian style, meaning they might not pamper you with "how's everything?" every 15 minutes, but their staff are available whenever you have questions, comments or requests. With international friends I came to eat here too and we always had a great time here. No need to say I am a regular to this restaurant for several years in a row. This place wasn't the best. The food was okay but the service was really bad. We watched customers who came in after us get served their food before us. I also got my food 10+ minutes before the other people at our table. Waitress never came back once to check if we needed water refills (we did) and at one point she was just sitting in a booth playing on an electronic she we still didn't have our food. Also paid $15 for a bowl of soup which I got as my main and it was soo small. I wouldn't have paid $15 if I'd known how small it would be and definitely wouldn't have gotten it as my main.
