I came here with my sisters for my birthday party in April, after a recommendation. Walking in, you get a sense of serious business, yet casual and welcoming. You can't miss the large brick oven behind the counter as you step in. There wasn't too many options on the menu, but you definitely want everything you read...LOL. If you are a fan of gourmet and are interested in new ideas you want to COME HERE! There is something for every palate! It is gourmet pizza at it's best! The staff was awesome, friendly, and helpful in explaining the menu and giving suggestions. We ordered the Arancini, Barbabietola Arrostita, The Stephanie, Piadina Carne, La Dolce Vita Burger, Capricciosa + Ananas, and Tiramisù. Every bite of our meals was a 'mmhmmm' and 'wow' affair! It was scrumptious and tasteful! The salad was fresh tasting and you can't stop eating. The pizza! I have no words to describe it's elegance and flavorful state!!! It was flavor on steroids! The next bite is better than the last and you never get enough. You just want to keep going! The portions are large and I had to take out my leftovers which was about three-quarters of my pizza.. LOL. They had a awesome complimenting list of cocktails, wine and non alcoholic drinks. The EXPERIENCE is worth more than what you are paying for sure! It is worth it!!! I definitely recommend a visit to...

I have eaten at the Piaotto in Halifax twice. Never was the service great, but everyone has a bad day so we decided to go back for a 3rd time. That was a mistake. Let’s list the issues from our 3rd visit. Our table was broken. My son and I tried to fix it. The waitress tried to fix it. It could not be fixed. No biggie we can move past that easily. There was no offer of moving us to another table even though there was one. We ordered 20oz. draught and were given 12oz glasses. When we mentioned it we were told the menu was wrong. We decided to power through. We ordered our pizzas which were okay but nothing great. The kicker is they brought me what I was told was my pizza. I started to eat it when the waitress told me I had my sons pizza. I said the other waitress said it was mine by name. She said the other waitress was wrong. She then took the pizza I had started to eat and gave it to my son. This was odd as the pizza my son ordered did not have the toppings listed on the menu that it showed up with. When I asked the waitress she said that’s what it came with even though the menu did not list it.

After all was said and done we paid $200 for a meal and service that was less than stellar. With so many excellent restaurant choices in Halifax it will easy for us to avoid going back for...

I recently gave this restaurant a second chance, despite a poor experience during my first visit. Unfortunately, it was an even worse experience this time around, and I genuinely don’t understand how this place is still in business.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a single waiter, who clearly lacked any experience. We ordered drinks—two cocktails and a Diet Pepsi—and after an hour, we still hadn’t received anything. When the appetizers finally arrived, the food was bland and tasteless, resembling something straight out of a can.

As we continued to wait for our mains, it became clear that something was terribly wrong. We decided to cancel the rest of our order, and the waiter promised to bring our bill. However, instead of handling our request promptly, he proceeded to stand at the bar, talking on the phone and ignoring us for another 15 minutes. At that point, we attempted to get his attention, but after several failed attempts, we decided to leave the cash for the meal we had already consumed and simply walk out.

This place is a prime example of how a lack of customer service and poor food quality can ruin a dining experience. I don’t understand how they continue to operate with such dismal service. Save your time and money—this is not a place I will be...

Another great spot on Water Street! Piatto was right down the street from my hotel (Westin) and we strolled down for a tasting dinner with some of my local friends. You know a place is good when the locals bring you. Tons of great wood fired pizza. Their oven is NO joke & all of their restaurants use “ingredients and procedures protected by the Italian governing association so you taste a “true Neapolitan pizza the way you would in Naples, Italy. Piatto is the first pizzeria in Atlantic Canada to receive the prestigious VPN-certification from Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN).” We tried pretty much every pizza they have as well as they their Charcuterie plate and the meatballs - oh my gosh, all were great. I loved the open atmosphere of the place - super casual but also upscale. Their pizza oven is a beautiful sight to behold and almost a work of art. Their wine selection is great too - we tried several different bottles because, let’s face, I wasnt driving! I tried their Amarone del Vallipocelli and the Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo Sangiovese / Cab Sauv. - both from Tommasi Family Estates (which I’ve visited in Italy!) - loved both!! Don’t miss this spot if you are in Halifax….. or St. Johns or Moncton, New Brunswick, or Charlottetown, PEI.

The interior of Trattoria Vesso has a very nice vibe, and the staff were welcoming. Our server in particular was excellent — very nice, knowledgeable about the menu, and truly hospitable, which made the experience much better. The appetizers were a highlight — the halloumi sticks and the cheese balls with marinara and pesto were really tasty. The pastas were quite decent and enjoyable overall. Unfortunately, the pizzas were disappointing. While I understand Italian pizzas usually have some light charring for flavor, these were unevenly cooked — the outer crusts were very burnt and black, while the centers were undercooked. The burnt flavor was overwhelming and took away from the taste. We were able to finish the Mediterranean pizza, but both had the same issue. Another downside was the timing: about 30 minutes between appetizers and mains. Overall, the atmosphere, appetizers, and service were excellent, but the pizzas need more consistency, and some of the dishes could use more balance in flavor.
