I stayed at the Cambridge in the beginning of summer. The accommodations were lovely but the extremely poor service has left me feeling the need to write a review. This was some of the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. I checked into the hotel on my way to an event. My room was not yet ready which is completely fine. The front desk person was very helpful. I informed him that my partner was also coming to the hotel and would meeting me at our event afterwards. I was assured this would be no problem. He gave me a form to fill out where I provided the name of my partner and signed a part that gave her permission to receive a key to the room. I also gave him my credit card to have on file. A couple of hours later the same front desk worker called my cell phone to inform me my room was now ready. I told him thank you and that I would not be back for several hours but that my partner would be arriving soon to drop her luggage off in the room. He said that would be great and no issue. Less than an hour later my partner called me (apparently there was now someone else at the front desk ) they would not let her go to our room and claimed nobody by my name had ever checked in (there was a form at the front desk that I had filled out hours earlier) the staff refused to call me to sort this out. When I was told this I called the front desk from my phone, they would not answer it. They informed my partner she would have to pay up front for a room if she wanted to stay at the hotel, they were quite pushy and confrontational. I called the front desk from my phone again, this time they answered. They claimed to have no idea who I was and that there was no record of my making a reservation. I explained that I had already checked in and filled out a form. They denied this but said if I filled out an online form and my credit card information then my partner could book a room with my credit card. This wasn’t appropriate as I already had a room. I had no choice but to leave my event and return to the hotel to sort out the problem. By the time I arrived the front desk was immediately apologetic and magically my check in was confirmed. I asked what had happened as it caused me to have to leave an important event. The person just smiled and said they were sorry and offered me free parking. They did not seem to be able to give me an explanation. After I checked out the hotel sent me a service survey. I filled it out detailing that the front desks errors cost me significant time at an important event and that they could not give me an explanation as to what had occurred. I received a reply from someone saying that they would look into the matter. After 2 weeks I had not received a reply. I sent a follow up email stating this and that I would like to have an explanation. This email was never answered. Which is why I am now leaving a public review on Google. 3 times I have asked for someone to explain what happened and 3 times I was not given an answer. This is why I feel compelled to leave a 1...
Read moreA Comfortable Stay in a Prime Location We recently stayed at Cambridge Suites in Halifax and overall had a very pleasant experience. Here’s a breakdown of what stood out to us — both the highlights and a few areas for improvement: 🌆 Location: Absolutely Perfect The hotel is ideally located within walking distance to many of Halifax’s key attractions. There are countless food and beverage options nearby, and it's only a 10–15 minute downhill walk to the waterfront, 5 minutes to the Citadel Historical Site, and about 10–15 minutes to the beautiful Public Gardens (which we loved so much we went twice — the tour and mini-concert were lovely surprises!). Just be aware that the walk back from the waterfront involves a steep uphill climb — something to consider if mobility or time is a concern. 😊 Staff & Service: Friendly and Efficient Check-in and check-out were fast and seamless. All the staff we encountered — from front desk to housekeeping to breakfast service — were consistently warm, helpful, and welcoming. 🏋️♂️ Amenities: Well-Equipped and Thoughtful We appreciated the hotel’s fitness center, which is well-equipped and includes sauna and jacuzzi facilities (though we didn’t get a chance to use them). There's also a convenient self-service laundry area — $3 for a wash and another $3 for drying, which we found very handy. ☕ Complimentary Breakfast & Common Areas Breakfast was generous and well-managed, with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, yogurt, fruit, muffins, and various breads. Despite the busy morning crowd, the staff handled everything smoothly and efficiently. A thoughtful touch was the 24/7 coffee, tea, and water station near reception, plus a small snack area for purchase — convenient for late-night cravings. 🌇 Rooftop Patio: Beautiful but Underutilized The rooftop patio offers a lovely outdoor experience with a great view — a real hidden gem of the hotel. However, food and drinks are only available on Fridays and Saturdays. With such a wonderful space, it feels like a missed opportunity not to activate it more regularly, especially during the warmer months. 🧹 Housekeeping: Room for Improvement While the room was generally clean and comfortable, the housekeeping service could be more responsive. On one occasion, even after indicating that we wanted our room cleaned and seeing housekeeping right next door as we left, the room hadn’t been tidied by the time we returned. It’s a small detail, but one that could be improved for a more consistent experience.
Final Thoughts Cambridge Suites offers great value, an unbeatable location, and friendly service — a solid choice for anyone visiting Halifax. With a bit more consistency in housekeeping and more activation of the rooftop space, it could truly elevate the overall guest experience. We’d happily...
Read moreI stayed here for 3 nights and expect that I will stay here again Downtown Halifax, in my opinion, has two places you want to be near. The boardwalk harbor front and Spring Garden Road. The walk to Spring Garden Road is literally two minutes. The harbor front is maybe 5 or 8. Check in was easy and staff were polite and professional. Unfortunately, the bathroom in my room was missed. The toilet and tub were not cleaned. I called about it and they were apologetic and got me another room quickly. Things happen and it is hard to keep everyone on point. A small issue which was easily corrected. The room is a little bit dated but not badly so. It is very spacious. The most spacious I've stayed in while in Halifax. The fitness room is open and spacious which is great as sometimes in Hotels it is small and claustrophobic. A great sauna and a nice rooftop outdoor area too. The restaurant is clean and comfortable and not pricey. I ate there once and the food was good but did not eat there again as the menu is limited. It could use a menu upgrade. Halifax has a lot of restaurants close by and even a hole in the wall has great food in Halifax so it is stiff competition, which highlighted the lackluster menu. An easy fix though for the hotel. Toilet paper is one ply low grade. Not a nice touch for the room point. Same with the tissues in the room. Sandpaper like. The continental breakfast is better than an average family type Continental breakfast with typically has a pancake machine and powdered scrambled eggs. It serves some cheddar cheese slices, boiled eggs, hash browns, a few cereals, typical breads, a fruit bowl, oatmeal and a few more items. Not bad. Not great. Adequate. At the end of the day the culture here is nice. Hard working and friendly staff who clearly aim to please and are not snooty, which you can get sometimes at a few hotels in the area. Nothing exceptional about it makes me want to say "wow" what a place but not one thing would make me say "stay away." This is actually a great thing as I have stayed in multiple hotels in the area and there always seems to be one thing or another that sucks about it enough to not want to go back. This hotel simply and satisfactorily delivers on what it is supposed to where it is supposed to and that is a great thing and a reason that it may become my go to hotel while in Hali...
