DO NOT EAT HERE MONDAYS!!!
5 star experience on other days of the week, but only a -5 star experience (yes, negative 5 stars) today. Hence 2 stars.
I was absolutely disgusted by a rotten potato in my homefries served to me this (Monday) morning. I spit it out into a napkin, but accidentally swallowed some of it. What was in the napkin was a mix of yellow, grey and black, indicating black coloured mold. It tasted sharp and extremely sour. The potatoes that werent moldy felt old, dry and stale. I let one of the servers know that one of the homefries was half rotten, and also the fact that it was so nauseating that I couldn't finish what was left of my breakfast (which is bizarre for me, because I normally have a hearty appetite and eat everything on my plate). The server simply apologized. No offer to remedy the issue, nor even any attempt to look into what happened with the cook or report it to management. There was no reassurance any steps would be taken to ensure the dining comfort or protection of me or their other customers. Besides the residual rotten aftertaste left in my mouth from the expired homefry, the way service handled that was beyond disappointing.
About 2 hours later, I still felt sick to my stomach/ nauseous, and suspected it to be because of that potato, because I normally never suddenly lose my appetite or feel sick to my stomach like that. In hopes of finding out what happened, I called back around 10am. It appears that no one looked into it, and nothing was done to investigate the rotten food. I asked them to please find out what happened so that this incident doesn't happen to another unsuspecting customer. It has now been 9 hours later and I still feel sick to my stomach from that "off" bit of potato.
My brother warned me not to eat here after he had a bad experience. He said he didn't want to return because homefries were old, over cooked, dry and unpalatable. It was on a day early in the week, possibly a Monday.
I insisted he give the restaurant another try, and he did (not on a Monday morning, possibly a Thursday) and we both were delighted by excellent, juicy, fresh homefries and juicy bacon and eggs. Again, I have been to this restaurant on 3 other occassions on other days of the week, and it has always been fantastic--which is why I'm giving 2 stars not 1. I was actually looking forward to giving this restaurant 5 stars from the last visits. But this incident with the mold and the staff's response was appalling. We didn't ask for our money back, but I think it would have been fair to return our funds or offer us to return so they can make it right.
In addition to this major issue, there were a couple of other minor issues. The rye toast did not arrive cut in half, so I had to butcher it with my butter knife which was a mess. The homefries felt old, stale, dry, and out of date. And the bacon was waaaay overcooked, and dry to the point of being dusty and hard like chalk. Not even crispy.
We left a tip anyways, which was the first time during the ENTIRE 45 minute experience of dining there that someone smiled at us. This place normally has a fantastic, fun, energetic vibe but this morning was just bleh.
It felt like a totally different, and horrible experience compared to the other days of the week I have eaten there. Is there a different manager on Mondays or something?!
I dined there Monday September 9, 8am-8:45am, with a friend. We ordered 2 breakfast specials for $6.99, a coffee and a tea. The total was $25 including tip. It felt like a rip off because the food and service...
Read moreI can’t really give this a full review because I didn’t even end up eating here. I initially was going to go to the Waterdown location because they were having a promotion for $7 full breakfast all day (not just in the morning) but ended up going here because it was closer to me. I got there and it was packed without of school Mac kids and elders which is to be expected around brunch. The decor felt lifeless and cold making it feel full of people yet empty. It didn’t really feel like a restaurant it just felt like a room with tables in it. It was loud and tables were oddly close together leading me and my boyfriend to feel like we were on a double date with the couple next to us. We started looking at the menu and my boyfriend ordered a coffee. As we grew gradually more uncomfortable we decided to finish the coffee and leave. I understand it was towards the end of her shift but our waitress was quite unpleasant. She seemed off put but our hesitation to order as she kept coming up to us to ask us what we wanted to order having only been there around 5 minutes. We ended up leaving having finished half a coffee and felt pressured to tip as our impatient waitressing was hovering overhead. We ended up going to the Waterdown location and had an amazing time. Service was great as well as ambiance we had an amazing breakfast and our day was flipped because of our...
Read moreWe visited Stacked Pancake and Breakfast House McMaster without a reservation, and despite the place being packed, we were seated after just a 15-minute wait—impressive given how busy it was!
I tried their Avocado Vegetarian Burger, which was fresh and flavorful, while my friend opted for the Veggie Plate. The plate came with a side of toast and their house-made jam, which was a delightful touch and full of rich, fruity flavors.
For drinks, we tried the Caramel Macchiato and Chai Tea, both of which were fantastic. The macchiato had the perfect balance of sweetness and coffee, and the chai tea was aromatic and comforting—great complements to our meals.
The tables were clean, which was a positive, but we noticed that the floors in the seating area could use better upkeep, as they were a bit messy. While this didn’t detract much from the overall experience, it’s worth noting for improvement.
Overall, Stacked Pancake and Breakfast House McMaster is a great spot with a solid menu, delicious food, and quick service even during busy times. With a bit more attention to floor cleanliness, it could elevate the experience...
