After receiving a great looking menu flyer, we opted to try Sushi Shop, excited that a new place with a great looking menu had opened relatively close by. I placed an online order at 435, with an initial pickup time of 530. This was changed when I placed the order to 550. Fine. When I arrived, I was told it would be 10-15 minutes. Over half an hour later, my order was ready, but incomplete. I was told three different values of time for the remainder to be completed. All were wrong. I left jovially as the order at least looked good, but there were red flags. My bubble tea had bee sitting on the counter for over 30 minutes -- it was watered down from the melted ice when I finally drank it. The miso soup had to be reheated. The sushi was okay -- the fish was definitely fresh and prepared well, but the rice was all wrong and had little to no flavour.
3 stars is being generous -- this place has only been open for 3 weeks, so I understand growing pains. At least be apologetic -- don't tell me that to have my food ready on time, I should order 2 hours in advance. This isn't a Michelin Star restaurant. It's a middling chain. I will try it again in a few months in hopes of improvement, but I'm not...
Read moreI don’t normally leave bad reviews, but this shop left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally and figuratively. First, they advertised a 15% off student deal on their poke bowls. I went in, noticed that the poke bowls were $17 regular price and asked if the deal was valid for the day as I am a student, the owner responded that I was. When I went to pay, the bill came to $20, which obviously means no deal was applied. I paid and didn’t make a fuss out of embarrassment but it’s incredibly scummy and low life business practice to try and rip off customers who are supporting paying your bills. Especially customers who are broke struggling college students.
Next, the poke bowl itself was the absolute worst I’d ever tried. The fish tasted awful, like it had been spoilt.
Do yourself a favour and do not do business with this restaurant, it’s clear that they’re incredibly greedy and will take advantage of customers who are willing to offer...
Read moreCame here twice. First time was alright, forgot what combo I ordered but got everything I wanted no problem, i tipped and it was overall a nice experience. The second time around was problematic. Firstly, there is a sign which states there is a 10% discount if paid in cash policy, i paid in cash and got no such discount, whatever. Secondly, i ordered combo c which entails 5 pieces of some salmon roll and 6 pieces hosomaki which are chef’s choice. As i see it, chef’s choice implies that we would probably get 3 pieces of a vegetarian roll (which is of course cheaper) and the other three pieces would be a protein roll either tuna or salmon (which would be more expensive). To my unpleasant surprise i got only the vegetarian options which was highly disappointing and in my honest opinion scummy. I believe the wording of “chef’s choice” implies some variety and not just cheapness. I don’t suggest...
