Review: Swiss Chalet (Queenston Road)
It had been a while since I ordered Swiss Chalet, so I thought I’d revisit an old favorite. Unfortunately, this experience reminded me that sometimes good things really do come to an end.
I ordered the chicken on a bun combo for delivery. First surprise: it came in a cardboard box. Yes, I know — saving the environment. Noble cause. But not everything belongs in cardboard. Burgers and fries are one thing; roasted chicken sandwiches with dipping sauce? That’s a war crime against takeout packaging.
When I opened the box, the fries looked like they’d been living at the bottom of the fryer since last Tuesday. Dry, dehydrated, and somehow both crunchy and limp. If I ate 5% of them, it was only because I was desperately filtering through the rubble looking for a survivor.
The chicken sandwich itself didn’t fare much better. The chicken was dry, the bun looked like it had taken early retirement, and the stuffing? Served in a little container that looked like someone had squeezed it out of a toothpaste tube. Nothing says “bon appétit” like paste-textured stuffing.
To make matters worse, I got no napkins. A chicken sandwich with Chalet sauce and no napkins is like handing someone a parachute with no straps — technically it’s there, but it’s useless.
The best part of the meal? The pickle. A lone, crunchy pickle that unintentionally stole the show. When the pickle is the highlight, you know the rest of the meal is on life support.
In summary: disappointing chicken, tragic fries, unfortunate packaging, and stuffing with the consistency of kindergarten art paste. Swiss Chalet used to be a go-to for me, but this experience was enough to send me searching for a new roasted chicken option. Somewhere out there is a place that knows fries should look edible, chicken should be juicy, and stuffing shouldn’t need to be applied with a caulking gun.
⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 star out of 5 — and that star belongs to the pickle).
This is in response for whomever replied and asked me to contact them and give them information which they 100% ignored my email so this is to you hopefully everybody reads
the so-called “owner” is actually reading these, here’s a tip: don’t pretend you care about feedback if you’re going to ignore customer emails. That’s not customer service, that’s PR spin. And please—don’t insult paying customers by thinking we won’t notice.
What makes it worse is that the owner does nothing to rectify the bad service. No follow-up, no accountability, nothing. Just silence. Maybe that’s their new customer care policy: ignore the problem and hope it disappears. Spoiler alert—it doesn’t.
The service I received was beyond unacceptable. If anyone’s reading this review, take it from me: I do not recommend this Swiss Chalet at all. Save yourself the headache, your money, and the...
Read moreTwo experiences in the past 3 months which left more to be desired.
First experience was where we did take out for a large dinner a couple months ago. We were given our order, return home and discover a third of the order missing. We called, were asked to come back. We made the trip without as much as an apology for spending a collective hour for the 4 trips back and forth to the location. Food was good.
Second experience was yesterday for lunch. Our server attempted to be friendly but hijacked our family conversations multiple times with stories of her personal challenges in her life, being too judgmental about our order and eating habits by "joking". Multiple items we asked for were not available: Sangria, Multigrain buns, other drink items, and even vegetables! When we asked the server about why those items were on the menu but not available, we were told it was due to supply chain issues and that "they are not a bar". Not the server's fault but poor communication and lack of any care to provide alternatives or a professional reason. One person at our party decided to order their own Shirley Temple with a shot a vodka to make their own drink. The server advised us that the whole restaurant has only one shot glass so she would need to pour it in immediately in case they needed it elsewhere. Seems unfair to the staff to have so little to work with.
We understand that supply chain issues affect everyone but please either let us know upfront at the front door, when we sit down, or tape over on missing items. The food we got again tasted good which is why I am rating 2 stars but I have no desire to get take out or eat in the dining room at this location again.
In short: we will still eat at Swiss Chalet (which we love) but not...
Read moreWent there today as I was craving The Chalet for a while. Decided to goto this one today on Queenston Rd in Hamilton. I wish I had went to a roti place instead. When I walked into the takeout area it was not to busy but the girl gave a ladies order to a different person then panicked and took the food back after she ran into the parking lotto retreave order. Then proceeded to give the food back to the back of the house I guess to make it look pretty and not sure what that final outcome was as my order came up. I ordered a 1/2 chicken dinner with mashed potatoes. My order came up quickly and now I know why it came up quickly. I drove to a park to eat my dinner and when I opened it up the thigh was well under cooked as it was still red on the back side and it still had red veins. The breast was not much better as the skin was rubbery and the meat still had a red Hugh to it. I was to far to take it back and I picked out a little.bit of the meat that was cooked as I was very hungry. The best part was the gravy and mashed potatoe. I guess you don't need to be a good cook to make potatoes, and I guess they where out of good cooks to provide me with a cooked chicken. My word to everyone is don't go to Swiss Chalet at 5pm cause your chicken will still cluck and maybe wink at you. I am not bitter that I spent $22.00 to have a meal that I tossed in the garbage that maybe the raccoons won't even eat. Just dissapointed as I was craving that good old fashioned chicken meal that used to be good. Maybe ther are still good ones out there but this one is a thumbs down. Buyer beware. I have given a lot of food reviews so I hope that you see my review as it...
