It makes me sad to even have to write this review but I am so disappointed with The Burnt Tongue. I have ordered here many times and tonight may just be my last time. I had my dad over for dinner and he ordered a soup & sandwich, I ordered a soup & kale caesar salad through UberEats. Our dinner arrived (package was stapled and not tampered with) and my dad's sandwich was not in the bag. I checked the attached receipt and I was charged for it, so I called The Burnt Tongue and told them our sandwich wasn't delivered. His response: "I'm very sorry that happened. It's extremely busy in here and that's unfortunately just what happens in this industry." Excuse me?! That is unacceptable! Then... I went to enjoy my kale caesar salad and the (small to begin with) box wasn't even HALF FULL! $6 for maybe half of a cup of kale with minimal dressing. As mentioned before, I have ordered from here many times and I ALWAYS get the kale caesar... So I know this is not their typical portion. I had to feed my dad more food and I was left unsatisfied with my meal as well. I don't care that it's Saturday night and it's busy. So is every other restaurant in the city. Do better, Burnt Tongue.
Update: after I posted this review, I was contacted by the Burnt Tongue. I explained my situation and they were very apologetic and offered me a free meal for my husband and I. Thank you for making things right! I still...
Read moreBoth our Soups -DillPickle w Potatoe, and Morrocan -were surprisingly good, with lots of flavour depth and complexity. Our Chicken Vietnamese Sandwiches were also great, with lots of chicken breast and just enough of the veggies and sauces to round them out but not enuf to make a mess eating in the car. Parking out front was very limited due to a band's cabana and a long row of picnic tables in the parking lot. We likely could have parked elsewhere but instead parked at the coin-only meter in front of the resto. After we ordered we asked if they could break a $5 bill so we could pay the meter. The young cashier, the team super and the manager all replied "no". Saying "5-in = 5-out -yes?" I pointed to the loaded tips container in front of me beside the till -but to no avail. As we were eating we were enjoying the food and their whacked-out response and my partner recalled the Mr. Show episode, "Change for a Dollar" where Odenkirk goes into a store asking if they can break a bill. Parking was obviously tight so if you dont want to make change you could even just tell us where its instead free to park. We were your paying customers, paying in advance, not someone walking in with no intent to purchase. If I were you I'd be more proactive on getting your customers into the store with nothing distracting them from being focused on enjoying the quality fare you...
Read moreFirst off, I absolutely love this place, but I am writing this review out of protest. Unfortunately, there is only 1 vegan soup option available, and with their recent menu change, they got rid of my absolute favourite soup, the squash, sage, and lentil soup. It has been replaced with an alphabet soup, which is honestly worse than canned vegetable soup, and more expensive. Normally I love this place, the prices are good for the portion and quality of food you get, but I am bummed out that there is only 1 vegan friendly option, which is now not very good. A few weeks ago this was an absolute 5/5 place to eat that I would go to multiple times a week, but now there is no point when I can get better soup out of a can. I can't speak to the other non-vegan options because I have dietary restrictions, but I will say the black Bean burger is amazing and a great portion for price. They have a vote going for the next soup, but unfortunately, the new butternut squash soup will be a bisque, which from my understanding has dairy :(. Please bring back the vegan squash sage and lentil soup!!! I have crazy cravings for it now, and the Fortinos soup just...
