I tried this place on Friday after first hearing about it thursday. I have driven past this location numerous times and always thought it looked like a hole in the wall from the outside... boy was I wrong. The place inside (if not for the sheer amount of business they had today) was great! I havent felt like I was in a pizzarea in years until i walked in here. The pizza actully makes me think of New york, the smell the taste and the size!
I will say this a large pizza for $40.... is super expensive sounding... until you get it! the size of this thing is massive! it was SUPER greasy, although i think that was due to them being super busy and it being over cooked slightly. there was a but of extra cheese too (thanks Tonys!) but it was DELICIOUS!
The price makes this a once every couple of months thing, but it feeds 4 people easily (2 Massive slices each which is 4 slices each at any other pizza joint)
I cannot say enough of the taste, the crust was really like it was straight out of the bronx! the only thing i have to say is dont buy on days you think will be busy, as you will most likely get a slightly burnt crust on take out! but honestly it added to the flavour!
another downside is NO CREDIT/VISA/DEBIT I'm unsure as to why but it is cash only! there is an atm inside but it increases your cost by $1.00, but the staff was so nice without complaining or even asking i paid $1.00 less, what a gentleman the staff was super friendly and I loved watching them work!
The store front window was a little dirty but as I came at 8PM i assume it was because the pizza is cooking right next to it. Dont hate them for this , as it was so busy I waited 2 hours to get my pizza! it was definatly worth it! I will be...
Read moreEasy four stars. The chef (who I suppose is also the owner) of the restaurant was extremely welcoming and very helpful. He demonstrated to us the size options for the pizzas (either medium or large) which was great to visualize what we’d be ordering.
The “Bianco” pizza is tasty as well as the Calabrese style. Also can’t go wrong with the classic pepperoni. The pizzas were made-to-order and came to our table promptly (within 15 minutes max). I actually saw the chef handspinning the dough which was cool to see. There’s a great selection of pizzas - the options are fairly limited but there’s a good variety of traditional options, all made with authentic and fresh ingredients. Many of the ingredients are imported from places like Italy and Brooklyn.
Only downsides I could say would be: the atmosphere - in my opinion the restaurant is far too narrow and closed-concept. I think the restaurant could do well with a renovation so that the seating is much more open instead of just a linear sliver. I know it’s more of diner/“pizzaria” type restaurant but it just felt too tightly compacted and less welcoming or comfortable for that reason. The kitchen is also directly next to the entrance off of a busy intersection which (for me personally) is a little offputting for sanitary reasons. Second and last downside for me would be no complimentary water. They do have bottled water and pop for sale but cold clean drinking water should always be provided alongside food free of charge.
Overall a great experience and I would recommend if looking for good traditional New York...
Read moreI recently visited Tony - G’s pizzeria on the corner of John and King William streets , ( downtown Hamilton ) . I was referred to this store by a very opinionated and critically accurate Red Seal executive Chef that is in a league of his own , He gave me his personal opinion as a friend first then professionally speaking , I’m glad I took him up on his reference, I entered the restaurant to a very friendly Employee, that wanted to do nothing else but make sure I received exactly what I requested and was happy with it , And that is so rare now of days , I did make my selection for a slice of a simple pepperoni, the slice was big enough to qualify as a small pizza in other places , I got it to go , I ride a Harley so I had to eat it before riding for obvious reasons, after the first bite , I knew this is something special, so I sat and finished the slice and absolutely enjoyed every bite , Perfectly balanced ingredients, a awesome crust , it was thin but not like a soda biscuit, perfectly cooked, I don’t know why it has taken so long to find this place but man o man am I ever happy I have , It has to be the best slice of authentic style pizza I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing! To anyone who has not tried Tony G’s yet , do your self and taste buds the pleasure of eating this pizza ! To the owner and or employees of this place , Thankyou for the pizza you are sharing with customers, and keep up the excellent job you are doing , I for one will speak highly of your establishment and continue to refer people to it...
