I went here for the first time last weekend with 3 friends. Two of my friends ordered the gnocchi and raved about it. Their happiness with their meals are the only reason I'm giving this place more than 1 star. My other friend and I each ordered a pizza. She got the margarita and I got the prosciutto arugula. Neither one of us liked the pizza. The crust was really nicely cooked and thin, but the other ingredients did not sit well with either of us. I wouldn't call the meat on my pizza prosciutto... More like over cooked ham. When the waitress asked if we'd like our pizza's packed up (we barely ate them) I told her that I felt awkward and bad to admit it, but I didn't enjoy the pizza at all. She was shocked, but very kind about it. She said "everyone loves the pizza but maybe it's just not for everyone", and offered to take the pizza's off of our bill. I told her "I ordered a pizza and you made one for me, so I still want to pay." She then said she would just charge my friend and I for half of the cheaper pizza, each. I thought this was a very fair agreement and although I didn't enjoy my food, I enjoyed the service and was overall happy with the experience. When the bills came, I received a phone call and went outside to take it, leaving one of my friends with my card to pay my bill. When my friends came outside they informed me of the waitresses snarky comments she made after I had left. She told them she's been to Italy and that's EXACTLY how pizza is in Italy. She also told them not to write a bad review. First of all, I've been to Italy too sweetheart and no, that is NOT how pizza tastes in Italy. Second of all, I AM HALF ITALIAN! You cannot tell me how Italian food tastes (thanks for the laugh though!). I have NEVER gone to an Italian restaurant outside of Italy and expected the food to taste the same as it does in Italy. It's just not possible! That would be an unrealistic expectation. However, when I order a $25 pizza from an "Italian" restaurant, I expect fresh ingredients, I expect it to not taste like a frozen pizza from the grocery store and I expect REAL ingredients... Like quality Prosciutto and mozzarella (not the shredded kind). Third of all, I had never intended to leave a bad review. Look at my review history in Google and you'll see this is the first bad review I've ever written. I'm only writing it because of the servers rude/stuck up comments and piss poor attitude she had behind my back. Not sure if she thought my friends wouldn't tell me what she said? I tried to be as polite and humble as possible when admitting I didn't like the pizza. I even insisted on paying you after you said I didn't have to. But when you go out of your way to tell someone not to write a bad review, it makes me wonder what other complaints people may have had that you've asked them...
Read moreWe were excited to give this restaurant a try as we've heard good things about it: authentic Italian food made from scratch.
Maybe the experience would've been better on a different day because we were disappointed with our first and likely only visit.
We were not greeted after waiting several minutes to be seated. We almost thought of leaving and decided to walk up to the far counter for service. It was then, we were told to choose any unreserved tables for two. The setting was very aromatic, cute and cozy, but the chairs were plastic and uncomfortable. For a fine dining experience with dishes almost $25-$30 a dish, we expected better furnishing and customer service.
We ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. Our appetizer was forgotten and later brought out after we waited some more after our entrees, when we asked what happened to it. The utensils were removed so it was tricky to eat with just our hands as most of the tomatoes fell onto the plate. 😂
The complementary focaccia was simple but tasty and we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we lost our appetite waiting so long for the entrees to come.
My husband heard the gnocchi was delicious and soft, so he ordered that and was disappointed at the small serving size. For $28, he finished it in 2 minutes like it was a small appetizer. He joked, "I'm paying $1.25 per gnocchi, it seems." There was very little ground meat to the sauce so the dish itself was unimpressive. He liked how soft the gnocchi was in comparison to store bought.
I was recommended the chicken pasta. This has good serving size and meat. It was flavorful but still plain overall and the noodles was hard.
By the time we had the bruschetta appetizer in the end, we had spent close to 2 hours, most of it waiting for food to be served. It would have been good to be told how long we were expected to wait. If we were told 2h from order to food on the table, we would've left and better spent our time elsewhere.
Considering serving size, presentation and meal quality, pricing, and waiting time, we would not recommend this restaurant to our friends and family. Everything just doesn't add up to a pleasant dining experience. For the same spending, we had exceptional food and service at Brownstone, Cordo, and...
Read moreThis place absolutely blew us away. We were in Kamloops for a wedding and 6 of us decided to come here to eat and catch up. Totally authentic dining experience where the service is slow so you really get the chance to catch up and socialize while the food makes its way out.
The focaccia was soft, light, and perfectly salted! We shared the arancini, bruschetta, and polenta board. Definitely get the meat sauce on the polenta! Bruschetta was fresh and flavourful, and the arancini was crispy but not heavy, and the tomato sauce was amazing.
Our aperol spritz was strong (no problem for us LOL) and they had peroni beer (Italian beer).
We ordered 3 different pizzas and they were absolutely gorgeous. Large portions and the char on the crust was perfect! It even made for great leftovers the next day! We also ordered 3 pastas and the shrimp pasta was light and lemony and the noodles were cooked perfectly Al dente. The pepperoncini pasta was the perfect blend of spicy and creamy! All ingredients either sourced from Italy or locally. You can tell the chef cares about what she cooks.
They had one chef in the kitchen cooking everything with love! This is the perfect place for a nice and slow dinner experience where you don’t feel rushed at all. Perfect for catching up with friends you don’t get to see often. We loved our round table because we all could see and hear each other.
Our server was amazing and not too overbearing although we enjoyed every interaction we did have with her.
My partner and I have been to Italy and this is the most authentic experience we’ve had at an Italian place in Canada since! We will absolutely be back here whenever we find ourselves...
