We went to this restaurant due to all the positive reviews. As a fine dining restaurant, we are extremely disappointed with their quality of dining experience. If you are an Asian tourist, please avoid this place (The servers were very nice to other Caucasian dinners but expect us.). Food quality: We ordered bacon wrapped elk meatloaf, seafood stew and lamb pasta alla Norma. My husband liked the elk meatloaf but I found the meat was a bit overcooked. The potion was great. The pasta was the worse pasta I’ve ever had. The pasta sauce was very watery like they didn’t drain the water from the pasta. I didn’t taste the lamb sausage with any seasoning. I couldn’t find or taste the smoky eggplant either. The flavour was very confusing. I was really sure what I was eating. The seafood stew (with coconut lime broth) was also very watery, more like seafood soup with undercooked brown basmati rice. I didn’t really taste the coconut lime broth because it was so watery. Atmospheres: During our dinner service, there were a group of customers smoking right outside the restaurant beside the patio. We also got a small toddler who inhaled the second hand smoke. We were smelling different type of cigarette smokes during half of our dinner service. The server offered us a table inside the restaurant but our food already came. Moreover, we noticed that they got lots flies around. We were extremely stressed through our dinner service as we had to fight the food against the flies. (I took couple picture with multiple flies on the plate. ). It definitely doesn’t meet my expectations for a restaurant, especially a fine dining restaurant. Service: My husband called in the book a table. They said that they got a table in the patio. When we got there, I saw many empty tables outside. I asked if we can sit somewhere not too close to the road but the manager said that they are fully booked. During our entire dinner service, I saw couple tables were still empty. I don’t understand why they can’t accommodate our simple request as some walk in customers were were seated upon their request. My husband wanted to ask for a clean plate. The server walked off as we tried to call her very out loud. Thanks to the dinners from another table stopped her. It was extremely hard for us to ask for her. We had to wait for a long time for her to come by. I caught her checking on her phone outside of the restaurant. We have noticed that the Caucasian customers. were treated very differently from us. The servers were super friendly and helpful with the Caucasian customers. Overall, this is so far one of my worst dinning experiences! I do not recommend this place to anyone. If you are a tourist, save your money to go somewhere with better quality food and friendly service.

Brownstone is a wonderful restaurant and really a hidden gem in Kamloops. The restaurant took over a former CIBC bank. They cleverly worked their restaurant decor with the historic bank’s architecture. It has high ceilings and multiple connected dining areas. You can always find something to look at when you sit inside. The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The servers were all very speedy and provided good recommendations when we told them it’s our first time visiting the restaurant. We ordered two appetizers (sausage and a soup), as well as two mains (ahi tuna and steak). The ahi tuna was cooked to perfection and the flavour combinations were on point. The steak was also grilled to a medium rare with good char marks. We also ordered a flight of BC wine as per our server’s suggestion. Every dish was prepared with care and great attention to detail. We can tell they emphasize on freshness and focus on bringing out the best of each ingredient. Overall we were thoroughly impressed by the service, ambiance and their food. It was elegant and well executed. I highly recommend anyone visiting Kamloops to at least dine here for one of their meals.

We've been to the Brownstone quite a few times before, but this time we were going for a birthday dinner. We were really surprised they changed their decor to a stark white with bright lights. The ambiance and decor was always one of the main reasons we went there, but now I felt like I was in a cafeteria with bright lights shining in my eyes. I realize this is the trend but always felt the Brownstone stayed true to the heritage of the building. I liked it better before.

I dont understand the social distancing of the tables. There seemed to be the same amount of tables but they were spaced out really weird. One small table was literally next to the door when you came in. The table blocked the adjoining door. The staff wore the plastic shields going halfway down their face, but no masks. The cooking staff did not wear masks.

The waitress seemed a little scattered as she came to tell us the Dinner Specials AFTER we ordered our dinner... Say what????

Our food was a little sub-par, but not great. I expected more for the price. There never seems to be any variety in their menu. We did get complimentary champagne for my birthday at the end of the meal, which was great, and to be honest was my favourite part of the meal!!

We always liked it in the past, but we WONT...

While the food was decent, I was less than impressed by the service. There was no air conditioning during an intense heat wave, and we were mostly ignored.

My friends and I arrived, and were immediately ignored by the serving staff. I don't know if this was because of the date/time (we had a reservation, and it wasn't busy), or because we look quite young (I'm going to assume it was for this reason). Nevertheless, we were seated and waited a full 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Our drinks subsequently took another 10 minutes, and were only refilled once as an afterthought by a different server.

Again, I reiterate that the restaurant was not busy and there was plenty of service staff.

Eventually, a bus boy took our order. He seemed nervous and entirely unsure of what he was supposed to do. The food was lackluster and some of it was cold.

Shame on the rest of the staff, and particularly the older lady with short, dark hair who initially looked at us with disdain and proceeded to ignore us for the remainder of our dinner. Little did she know that we are all professionals in our respective fields and would have left a significant tip, had we received appropriate service.

I will most certainly not be recommending this...
