Brisket was good………..but that where it ends.
Yes this food truck food is in north Whitehorse. It’s located attached to a gas station so I should have expected it to be on par with an all day rolling hotdog like a 7/11. But if you are going to charge regular restaurant food prices from a big city you better have the culinary techniques to follow it up. Creole/Cajun food is hard and not just plowing dry spice on food and hoping it passes for the price you have to pay. To start the dining room was cold and the table we were sitting at was sticky. There was plenty of room at 6pm on a Sunday. We ordered a kale salad which was served on a stainless steel tray with a beyond sweet balsamic dressing with very miss balanced garnished accompaniments of pickled pears and peelings of pickled carrots, pecans and deep fried Brussel sprouts. Then my friend had chicken fingers and (deep fried) Brussel sprouts $19 !! the chicken fingers were almost black because of the deep frier oil was pass the point of actually being able to be used and should have been changed before service and heavy on the salt. Along with the grease ladened sprouts which were so uneatable we had to send them back and they were replaced with the same grease/salty awfulness as before we didn’t eat them. I order a platter of brisket which was just ….ok…..6/10 for a smoke house along with Dry dry dry and stringy pulled pork 2/10 and a few sauces which were pre-portioned in 2oz clear covered solo portion containers days before only on noticing the leather of dry sauce as we tried to dip our food through the dehydrated top. The smoked bbq sauce was just the regular bbq sauce with way to much liquid hickory smoked added …gross to say the least. The “Cajun” fries were as good as the brisket but unfortunately they were covered with so much salt on top of the cajun spice they were disgusting 🤢 and I had to drink tons of water after I left to balance my stomach as my body was angry with me for eating them. I also noticed that the “buttermilk fried chicken” on another table was sooooo black from the over used deep fryer oil it made me glad that I didn’t order them. And if this was a “Saloon” the only bar I saw was 5 tall uncomfortable looking stools against a wall with a railing and no real bar to sit at. I feel like this “Food Truck” has over stepped its boundaries on trying to make it as a restaurant a first year culinary educated student out of college could have done a better job. After sending back a dish and not eating the revised sprouts our server noticed and never offered any compensation and then explained that the fries we salty because of the Cajun spice………ya….$70 dollars of wasted money. Stick to the food truck I hear...
Read moreI grew up in Fenelon Falls and often go in. The Cow and Sow has gone through some serious changes over the years. It was extensively renovated and at the end of the renos, the establishment was sold. I was in well before the recent renovations and thought it was just okay. On this recent visit, my son and I were in Fenelon to fish at the falls. We stopped in to the Cow and Sow for lunch. The inside looks really good, a bit crowded, but still comfortable. They have a large traditional bar with quite a few beer types on tap. I was surprised to find that the upstairs has a full pinball arcade and that they hold special events there. I ordered the one piece fish and chips with gravy and my son ordered the beef dip and fries. I was shocked that as busy as it was, our food came out fast. My son said that the beef dip was the best sandwich he'd ever had except for two things: the bun fell apart and the dip was somewhat salty for his liking. I tasted the dip and agreed; while very flavourful, it verged on being a bit too salty. My fish and chips were wonderful and the side gravy was very good as well. The prices were in line with eating at a sit down restaurant and were reasonable. I did think the service was a wee bit slow, but again not unreasonable. Overall, I'm quite impressed at the new Cow and...
Read moreI’ve come to the Cow and Sow lots before. I drove 2 hours to my parent’s house to go out for dinner. We saw that they were open until 10, so we drove 20 minutes to the restaurant. As SOON as we walked into the restaurant, the waitress was rude and even annoyed by our presence. We overheard her complaining to a customer sitting at the bar saying, “you’ve got to be kidding me”. She then comes over and pretty much throws the menus on the table. My dad asked what time they closed at, and she rudely said, “Um very soon. Ten o’clock.” IT WAS 8:00 WHEN WE ASKED THIS. She then told us they were “out of food” so they only had fried food. Asked us for drinks but we weren’t ready yet, so she walked away without saying anything. We ended up deciding to drive another 20 mins to go to Lindsay. I am a waitress at 2 corporate/franchise restaurants, and this behaviour would most definitely NOT be tolerated where I work. I could not even begin to imagine the consequences I would face from treating guests the way she did. I can happily say I will never be back :)))) (Monday,...
