Unassuming little joint in a strip mall that is styled to be much more upscale.
Between the lighting, decor, centre table choices, and even tactile paint choices they're really trying to bring upscale asian fusion sushi to kelowna.
The outer booths are perfect for friends nd family dining, while the centre tables give that perfect date night feel so there should be something for everyone.
Service was quite good and prompt, although i felt they were not quite good at keeping water and tea topped up for such a small restaurant. I understand if you're trying to avoid big water jugs and tea pots all over the tables, but then you've got to step your refill game up.
Food was good but also confusing because of their desire to be upscale. They have a large assortment of classic style sushi and their menu is tight without any ramen offerings to dilute their kitchen.
They have a good range of fusion dishes like a spicy seafood stir fry made with soba, and a hawaiian style poki bowl. This is probably what makes them bistro style.
This is all fine and dandy until you order the veggie tempura and you get served six pieces resting on a bed of old plant stems with wax paper between them. You want to upscale your presentation with some plant stems as your plate bed...fine.
You're still strip mall sushi though not kyoto fine dining and you need to actually give people food.
I can't imagine eating here with a group of 4, ordering the veg tempura and having to rock paper scissor who gets the single tempura bean as their veg tempura item. Granted, the tempura was light and well fried, so they were quality pieces.
Having said that i would still recommend eating here for an occasion or if you just want to feel a little fancier than your average kinjo.
If you have a family to feed though....maybe save this place...
Read moreWe went for my daughter's birthday. We found the food okay. We are from Vancouver, so I do find Kelowna does not have the best sushi places. The rolls were normal and fine, nothing special. But my favorite is Yakisoba and I was highly disappointed. The price was high and the portion was the smallest portion I have ever got in any restaurant. That is saying a lot since I order Yakisoba at every sushi place I go. It definitely wasn't close to being even good. The flavour was the normal clove tasting sauce with just onions, cabbage and I think two pieces or less of zucchini. Oh and a carrot on top. Some places have a lot of veggies mixed in and others don't. If you are not a veggie fan, this is for you. The chicken on top was deep fried but was soggy and overall not good. Beyond the Yakisoba the rest of our meal was okay. Service was good. The server was nice and we didn't have an issue. Their covid measures for those who care either way was very much in the forefront. We were told to wear our mask anytime we moved from our table. To the bathroom, leaving the restaurant or doing anything you must have it on. We were only given one menu and told if we needed more (obviously we did) then to look up their menu online, which was not impressive. My mom told them she didn't have her phone and they did bring her another menu. I would say overall I would have given it 3 stars but I went up a star because our server did bring my daughter a birthday matcha green tea cheesecake and we really appreciated it. I can't say there was anything that impressed me and there were a few things that detracted from...
Read moreUnfortunately quite disappointing. Quick overview: portions are small. Pricing was fine. Rolls were just horrible as they were ALL dry and seemed rushed and put together without care. Had to use a fork on the majority to pick up without falling apart. Gyoza was actually great but overall very disappointed as it had good reviews but feel quite let down as it seemed like day old sushi rolls...
Just ordered takeout tonight to bring home to my wife while we are here on vacation. Ordered three rolls and an appetizer. Price wise seemed decent but when I got home I realized the portions were quite small. also they said the order would be ready in 25-30min but I got there about 15-20 min and just asked if it would be ready soon and it was already sitting out with other orders so not sure how long it was sitting out for and maybe that added to the poor quality we experienced. The smoked salmon was totally dried out on top and it looked like it was topped with crushed canned tomatoes or something. The belly dancer roll - the pork belly was so dry! It was not enjoyable. Not sure if we ordered something that had a dry top layer on the stuff they were using or something but was very very dry. The last roll was okay but the rice was dry and it fell apart and was very loose and crumbled with chopsticks when picked up. Even took pictures to show but unfortunately unable to post them here on my phone.
I’m not a big on leaving reviews but I was seriously disappointed here and hope that management sees this and can use it to better the food they are...
