Service/Quality should not be compromised when busy. I've visited this restaurant twice in the last month, both times the place was FULL. The first time me and my wife stood at the entrance a few minutes expecting to be greeted. The waitress' were afraid to make eye contact with me. They were busy. So we left. Our 2nd visit we decided to wait it out..after waiting a little bit one of the girls said she will clean the empty booth for us...she told us to hold on...Then a second server came and told us the same thing. It was nearly 15 minutes before we got to sit down. Then when I ordered....I asked the server about the different types of pho. She was unable to describe anything for me, she only wanted to know "which item do you want?" We went with spicy lemongrass pho....unsure of what kind of meat/protein is inside...I noticed they had young coconut juice on the drink menu for 4 dollars. I asked our server...what is young coconut juice? Is it drinking from a coconut? She replied no we don't have that fancy stuff, its just out of a can....and then she came back later and said they are out of stock anyway. When our spring roll and soup came out, it was not hot...it was luke warm. The soup was not spicy and I hardly could taste any lemongrass flavor at all. I tried to wave a waitress down for the usual condiments it comes with (hoisin, sirachi, beansprouts and lime) but when they saw me wave they looked the other way. Over all I was unhappy with the service and quality of food. Not really sure why the restaurant is so packed full.....The best Vietnamese restaurant that I will recommend to anyone is called Vietnam Village. It is a little slow, but worth the wait and the server is always friendly and sweet. Sorry...
Read moreFinding an authentic Vietnamese spot with your favorite dishes isn’t always easy, but Hoàng Giá Vietnamese Cuisine in Kelowna delivered, especially for bún bờ Huế enthusiasts like me. I first discovered this place just by glancing at their menu, seeing bún bờ Huế listed immediately caught my attention and sealed my decision to visit.
I’ve tried a couple of menu items here, including their vegetarian stir fry, Vietnamese coffee, and, of course, bún bờ Huế. My first spoonful of bún bờ Huế had me hooked. The broth is thick, loaded with spices, and has a rich, concentrated color that signals they’re not cutting any corners. What sets it apart is the lemongrass, lots of it, giving the soup a bold aroma that true bún bờ Huế fans look for. They also don’t skimp on the meat, packing each bowl with a generous amount, so you really feel like you’re getting great value.
The vegetarian stir fry impressed me, too. The gravy has that unmistakably “Asian” flavor that keeps you wanting more, truly capturing what you crave from a good stir fry. Their Vietnamese coffee rounded out the meal perfectly.
If you like your bún bờ Huế with more heat, just grab some Sriracha at the table—their broth is fairly mild on its own, but spice lovers can adjust to their preference. Sometimes, the real depth of flavor doesn’t only come from heat, and hoáng giá does a great job letting the core ingredients shine.
Without hesitation, I’d recommend this spot, especially for bún bờ Huế. For me, it’s the one of the countable places in Kelowna I’d recommend for this dish, easily a 9/10. If you’re after lemongrass-rich, hearty Vietnamese food served in generous portions, hoáng giá is the...
Read moreEdit: Went back for round 2 this week... The food and service were no where close to our first visit. We were ignored most of the night and the food wasn't anything to talk about, not even worthy of a picture... If you go, I'd recommend sticking with the Pho, which we did not order this time. I hope your service is as good as our first visit. Disappointed.
I've been craving Pho and Hoang Gia met my expectations for Kelowna.
I ordered the 28. Hue Spicy Soup 19.95 Beef flank, beef ball, fried pork ham, banana flower shreds, think vermicelli rice noodles, special (HUE) style beef in lemongrass pork and Wagyu beef broth which was delicious and had me sweating from the spice.
We also ordered 39. Special Combination 18.95 Spring roll, pork, marinated pork, prawns and chopped lettuce mixed with basil and bean sprouts served with vermicelli rice noodles which was tasty and of course you have to order some 10. Gyoza (6 Pieces) 9.50 Grilled pork dumplings. We were hoping to have the gyoza as a starter but they arrived after the mains.
They have a good drink selection and the price of a jug of beer is less here compared to other Kelowna restaurants.
Overall we had a great meal and will be coming back to try...
