HORRIBLE!! WARNING: STAY AWAY! Thoroughly Disgusting! First look at the unclean floors and table tops! This place used to be amazing when it first opened about 13 years ago. The “Original” owners served top notch sushi and Japanese delights! The place was always packed with locals and visitors! They had an “open kitchen”, where you could see the team of “Sushi Chefs” preparing your order. I am originally from Toronto, and was spoiled with top upscale Japanese “Take Out” restaurants. When I first came to Kelowna, I had heard about Mizu being a great spot for sushi, teriyaki, tempura, as well as some authentic Japanese delights! It was a great experience, even if you were going to pick up your take out order. I was there today for a takeout order. (It’s been disappointing for the past few years, but thought I’d give it one more try!) WHAT A MISTAKE! I placed my order and waited at a table. I then noticed the dirty table, and filthy floor. It was 12 noon, and I was the only person there. The “Final” hit came when the “cook” came to the front cashier check out area and “belched!” He was wearing a unclean, ratty old greyish white old t-shirt. There was absolutely no way I was going to touch my food now!! When I got home I just threw it out. $24. Down The Drain! BE WARNED! This place needs to be inspected! There is now a wall separating the kitchen from the dining area, so you can’t see the actual kitchen. I can just imagine how unsanitary it is, as well as the “condition of the food itself!” What a DUMP!! If you have absolutely no standards, then this is definitely the...
Read moreWe ordered food from here last night. We tried one bite of the tuna sashimi and it had definitely gone bad. It tasted extremely fishy, smelled even worse. Not to mention the way it was cut was pretty gross. It looked like raw pork not fish, I’ve never seen such thick slices of sashimi. I called the restaurant to let them know- in hopes they would check their supply. While they did apologize, they argued that it couldn’t possibly have gone bad… it did go bad but whatever. We didn’t eat the negitoro roll because we didn’t want to eat any of the fish we got from them. The rest of the meal was super off putting too. The yam roll had a paste-like texture, was dry and seemed like it was old. The sunamono noodles in one of the two we got were not cooked. The avocado in the avocado roll was not even close to ripe, it was almost crunchy. The chicken roll was dry. The other rolls we got had nothing technically wrong with them, but they weren’t good. The miso soup was quite good to be fair, but the rest was a waste of money. The tuna definitely ruined the meal, and our appetites… we ended up throwing the food away. This place used to be a great little sushi spot in Kelowna, so it’s sad that it’s...
Read moreI had dinner at Mizu last weekend with my family of 4. This is our first time visiting this restaurant. When we arrived, we noticed that they had more tables outside than inside for dining-in. We walked in and saw why. The inside is a bit of a mess and did not have a typical Japanese restaurant ambiance. We were asked if we preferred to eat inside or outside and when we said inside, they looked disappointed. Note that they only had two tables inside and one of them was already occupied by staff who were eating on their break. We were seated and we asked for water and they told us that we had to buy their bottled water as they won't serve tap water due to Covid 19. Yet none of their staff wore masks. Felt more of a money grab to me rather than a covid 19 issue.
Despite the negative items above, their food was good for the price and the service was fine. The quality and price of the sushi is about the same you would get at a mall food court. From what I saw, they were definitely way more busy with their pickup/take out orders than dine-in ones. For these reasons i probably won't dine in there again in the future but may consider take out if I am looking for sushi...
