Not there yet...
We have been eating here for years and we are really excited to have Olympia Greek Taverna back!
Currently they are only doing take out. I was told they hope to open for dine in within the week.
We ordered the Family Special for $49 which includes a Medium 3 topping pizza, 2 pastas (lasagna or spaghetti) 2 salads (greek or caeser) and 2 pieces of garlic toast.
The ordering process was about 5 minutes on this day. The staff were really friendly and efficient, the call feature that let's you know how many calls ahead of you there are is appreciated. The order would be ready in 25 - 30 minutes and it was.
I went to pick it up, and I looked around the restaurant, it looks nice and there's a row boat upside down with lights above the bar.
The food... My pizza was severely underdone and keep in mind, this is only a 3 topping pizza. So I called and let them know, they were friendly and I asked for them to make me a new one. I brought the raw one back and promptly provided a new pizza. There was an apology but no appreciation offer/upgrade for having to go back.
The remake of the pizza was also underdone, but I couldn't keep going back so I threw it in the oven at home for a take a bake haha. The pizza was tasty and loaded with cheese.
The lasagna's were full of flavour (big hits of fennel?) and cheesy. The greek salad seemed underdressed, I didn't taste any acid, just oil and oregano. It was mostly green pepper with red onion and only one lil' olive. The caesar salad was tiny but the dressing looked home made and it was tasty.
The portion size was really small for everything. The salads were individual sized at best and you only get 2 slices of garlic bread.
Pricing appears to have increased by about 30% and portions have decreased prior to the fire.
I'd recommend staff follow up with customers after bringing something back, but I'm just a loyal customer, what do I know...
This restaurant used to offer THE BEST value for family special take out and weekday specials, hopefully that value returns. Yes, I know prices everywhere have increased...
With all that being said, I am truly happy to have this restaurant back in Rutland. The staff were very friendly, the new build looks great and we can't wait to dine...
Read moreBeautiful building and decor. Terrible service. If you have money but you don't dress up and smile lots and make small talk with the servers then prepare to be avoided and for them to rush through/avoid interactions. I wanted to ask for a sauce and was never given the opportunity, despite the servers coming to the table TWICE (the one asked how things were and as soon as she got an answer she was gone, not a moment to ask if we needed anything else and not a moment to listen to anything past what she wanted to hear) Oh, and if you need a to-go container you need to ask for a big one...if you don't ask then you get a bunch of little ones, even if your dish is a large bowl of fries...and there were a few other ridiculous things...I was interested in their pitas and when I asked how big they were she looked at me like I was a little strange and td me that "They're regular size...like you buy in the store". Um...lol...pitas can be as big as you make them...if you make them fresh...right.
I guess that they had a lot of fun messing with me. Good for them. I suppose ITAH for not leaving a tip and attempting to speak to the owner (who blew me off with a "I will speak to them"). Right. First and last time visiting there. The food was too mediocre to put up with the awful service. I feel like they messed with me on purpose and that the more irritated I got the more amusing it was to them. I did nothing wrong there and yet...I got messed with (I'm thinking because they felt they could and get away with it?) and there is pretty much nothing I can do about it. They really don't care, from the owner down. Yamas Taverna on Ellis St is WAY better for food, price...
Read moreIt has been far too long since I've been able to dine at this restaurant. After their fire the Brooklyn Community was shook and as Olympia has been a staple in Rutland and Kelowna for a very long time. This is where me and my wife would go on her anniversary almost every year.
I am very happy to be able to be going back to dine at this restaurant as it was my first time back since the fire the other night. And let me tell you other than it being a little expensive which quality food generally is. It was amazing the food was spectacular fresh tasted amazing. Their wait staff was on top of everything in a very Swift and attentive manner. And well the new atmosphere is amazing we were there just as the sun was going down so you started to get a little bit of the lighting coming on in the restaurant and it was amazing. Based on our first experience back I am a long time customer and we will remain to be one as long as they keep up the outstanding work. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or a special occasion as it is a little pricey but very delicious
The only one thing I would say that I was disappointed with in my experience other than how much should I spend. was the fact that they do not have the same share platters anymore. They have only one. It's definitely not a deal-breaker as the food you get there is still spectacular, but I would have liked to see the share platters back as those were me and my...
