Honestly, I wish I took more pictures, to show how wonderful the food looked.
While the presentation was wonderful, the taste was absolutely amazing. There's a reason that several locals recommended this restaurant. This is the kind of place where you must sit down, be patient, and enjoy your food, without a server pushing you along to get out. (They have a sign that says "plan on your dining experience lasting 2-hours, our reservation system requires it" The staff was fantastic, and helpful, as we had someone in the group that hadn't eaten Good German food before. We ordered alot of food for 3-people, after a long day of skiing without stopping for lunch, and every bite was Enjoyable.
Our favorites (in order):
Puréed Chanterelle Mushroom Soup (Seasonal Special) Garnished with Olive Oil & Sour Cream (Made with housemade chicken stock-not vegetarian) nobody else wanted soup but my friends ended up cleaning the bowl with the fresh housemade breads
1.1. Housemade Sausages THE Spicy Pork-seared pork sausage was truly amazing and had flavor that lingered and questions the palette in ways food never does. Our table ordered all 3 housemade sausages and liked this the best.
Elk Geschnetzeltes (Seasonal Special) Seared Medallions of Elk Green Peppercorn & Dried Blueberry Sauce Spätzle Vegetables
Veal Wienerschnitzel Thinly pounded & breaded schnitzel, cooked in butter Pan-fried potatoes & vegetables Add the side of mushroom sauce
Schnitzel Munich 5 oz unbreaded pork schnitzel, floured & seared Poached pear, brie cheese & pear jus Potato Rosti & Vegetables
Housemade Sausages 5.1 - Weisswurst-poached veal sausage 5.2 - Bratwurst-seared pork sausage
Vanilla Bean Pot de Creme Served with berry compote Garnished with whipped cream Choice was between This and Apple Streudel, would have gotten the Streudel but it had raisins in it. The Vanilla Bean Pot de Creme (like a pudding but better) was the perfect way to finish a wonderful meal, without being a heavy dessert.
Will definitely be back next winter, when we visit Kimberley,...
Read moreIt pains me to have to leave such a dismal review for a restaurant that has been a part of my family for decades......I am a Kimberley native. I grew up attending the Bauernhaus for Christmas, Weddings, Birthdays, etc. So we were beyond excited when we learned the restaurant was re-opening!! The tone for our evening was set from the minute our server approached our table - she was cranky and irritated that we were asking questions about the drink menu. She actually said to us "well have you looked at the menu"....um hello? Maybe I am spoiled and used to First Class service at this establishment - however, considering the price being paid by the consumer it is not unrealistic to expect stellar service from the waiter. The server then proceeded to be confrontational and nasty for the rest of our meal - it got to the point that our table (which included children, adults, and seniors) were afraid to ask her for anything or - god forbid - ask her any questions. To top it off, when she presented the bill, she stood at the table hoovering like a vulture, apparently attempting to ensure the "18% auto suggested tip" of $82.00 was selected. I 100% wanted to choose $0 for a tip, given the absolute disgusting level of service received, however I acknowledge that back of house also receives these tips, and the food was phenomenal! I ended up tipping a little over $60 - which is a bit over 10% of pre-tax total (NOTE: Make sure you are tipping on PRE-TAX total not total with taxes included). This experience soured my experience at this establishment, as well as that of others in my party. My suggestion for that terrible server is to find a different profession that is more suitable for your anti-social and confrontational personality. I hope others have a better experience, because when you are paying upwards of $700 for a dinner, you expect to have an...
Read moreI'm not a fan of schnitzel. But omg was the old bauernhaus the best! The service was excellent and our server made sure to check with us about our sons numerous anaphylactic allergies (Peanuts, eggs, milk, lentils, peas, chickpeas). They even made a special meal for him which he loved and ate the majority of (he's very selective due to his allergies so this was shocking) We were here for a rehearsal dinner and we got the feast. You MUST get the feast of you come here. It was by far the most delicious food I've eaten in a long, long time! It exceeded my expectations 100% and keep in mind that my expectations were quite low given that I don't really enjoy schnitzel. Every course was delicious, even the salads!! We really appreciated their attention to our sons allergy as we literally cannot take him to eat at any restaurants what so ever! So thank you so much! The restaurant was packed yet service and quality did not suffer. Food was so delicious that I couldn't even stop to take photos of each dish. I will come here every time we visit Kimberley. I honestly didn't even know it was there as it's pretty hidden! Yum! Just go...
