0 THOUGHTS ON “JIMMY’S LUNCH” AMBER-LEAH MARGARET TIMMONS July 2, 2015 at 2:45 am I heard of Jimmy’s Lunch a long time ago but never stepped foot into the restaurant until yesterday for a job interview as a waitress. This place has got to be the most talked about place in the last few years. Last year, someone I know ordered some breakfast from Jimmy’s lunch, bacon and eggs. We enjoyed the breakfast together. I didn't mind it. Before having tried their breakfast, I had been told so much folklore about this place and the people who run it so I never went in based on what I was told. I have even read about this restaurant in the paper. Since, the sign on the outside of the store states it is open on Sundays, and the sign that says it is open everyday is inside the store. Many local residents and visitors choose not to even bother with the restaurant. I have heard mixed reviews on the street from people with very specific opinions about the decor of Jimmy’s Lunch. And many people talk about the lingering questions as to why the store is only open once a week as per the Open Sundays, sign. Yesterday, I spoke with Tom George who mentioned that the answer is simple. He has more than one business and his other business takes presidence over Jimmy’s Lunch. My first impression is that he’s a nice guy. He said he works as a Masoner during the week. He only has one waitress for Sundays and as per our conversation yesterday he seems like he has a lot of goals for the restaurant to improve it and to open the restaurant possibly during the evenings and during the weekdays. The decor is amazing! The food really isn't priced all that bad and almost everything in the restaurant takes you literally back to the Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley era. Which, for me was so jaw dropping when I came in through the back stairs, through the basement and into the restaurant. Growing up, I was a fan of Elvis Presley and I still am. I still love watching Marilyn Monroe in those really old movies. There is so much colour in the restaurant. I was referred there by Mathew Kniukirk from Peterborough. He lives now in the same house I have spent the last three years in. He had amazing suggestions for improving the restaurant. The three of us sat around and just chatted about work history and ideas for Jimmy’s Lunch. A popular opinion around town is that the floor could be redone. Tom knows this himself and is seriously considering the change. We talked about so many things and exchanged numbers. Although, Tom mentioned that most of his customers are regulars. And he only has one cook in the restaurant. Honestly, if it wasn't for fear of what I was told about that place, I would've been there everyday as a regular myself. And I have walked by there so many times just always wondering and pondering about the place and the people. Considering the source, I thought maybe everything I was told was a lie because the source of where I got my information tends to talk about everyone in the city, even me. And most of the time, it turns out...

Okay here is an unbiased review and I don’t care who I offend but it’s good, it’s good. If it wasn’t good I would not be bothered to do this unless it was really really bad. I read some reviews and I have some things to say about some of the reviews. You can’t call a restaurant a greasy spoon or a classic dive when the food is so fresh and the premises spotless. When you first walk in you’ll see it’s bright and freshly painted. Memorabilia from the 20’s to the 50’s from May West and Marilyn Monroe to James Dean. Retro furnishings including these 50’s tables that Martha Stewart did a whole show on. It has a real warm homey feel. So let’s talk about the food!!!! When you first walk in you will see two water coolers one with spring water and the other distilled. So go and grab a glass from the side bar and help yourself and drink some fresh pure water as much as you like. If you like the water you can also buy the water in the 5 gallon containers kept at the front. Most of the locals come for the breakfast, just wait until I tell you why. First of all everything is farm fresh. The bacon they get is straight from the farm; whole slab bacon that they slice right there on the premises the slices of bacon are thick and meaty and crispy 2” x 7”, I measured it, Lol. Some people like their bacon very crispy and some not so crispy so make sure to specify from very crispy to semi-crispy. I like it very crispy. The back kitchen door is always open and often you will see them slicing it. You get 4 large slices of bacon with your breakfast. Eggs are fresh from the farm and you can really taste the freshness. The tomatoes are fresh from the farm and they usually put 2 big slices on your plate. The potatoes also come straight from the farm. The potatoes are; rolled, peeled and sliced right on the premises and that is why people come for the breakfast. They also include a side of homemade coleslaw, I like it in a paper cup. Last but not least you get 2 slices of whole wheat toast buttered. Enjoy a nice cup of spring water coffee for yourself. The coffee is at a cost of just a $1.25. You should help yourself, just grab a cup and pour yourself a bottomless cup of coffee. So this is arguably the best Five ‘Star Breakfast Equivalent’, by far and it should be quite expensive right? Wrong. Would you believe $5.95 and believe me they fill up your plate so come hungry. Just so you know it does get really busy on the weekends and sometimes there is a wait line but it’s worth the wait both in quality and in value. The cooks are Frank and Carol and they are the reason why people keep coming back for the beautiful breakfasts they make. If you think this review is biased come in a try the breakfast for yourself. Oh how I adore Jimmy's Lunch!... for the most exceptional breakfast in the entire Kitchener-Waterloo region! Yes, it's true. *Real home fries, *extra large eggs, always!! Oh, and the most perfect flavour *bacon, delicious, hot, fresh *arabica coffee and many offerings of refills..oh, and, *If you want more toast or home fries, it's on the house! Just kindly ask for some more. Yes, it's true, it really is the BEST...and these are just a few of the many reasons why! Pancakes, flapjacks, whatever you want to call them, they are cooked to perfection and stacked! With Sausage? Sure! (Not 2, not 3, but 4 sausage) There is no skimping here whatsoever! Jimmy's is generous and obviously loves serving up breakfast to every customer who enters. It's comfort food, a reliably good breakfast you can count on!..Sandwiches, and takeout too! There's a very relaxing, humble, at home kind of comfort in this nostalgic 50's era diner. Pop in and see for yourself! Kindness and super friendly employees who always greet you with a smile and effortlessly, make you comfortable to be there! It's this welcoming, kind treatment of their customers, together with top quality, delicious fresh food, and, its of very good value too! It's all of these things.
