We ordered the schnitzel, sausage, perogies, beef soup, and Caesar salad. Portions were very small, except for the French fries. The schnitzel was the size of a hamburger patty but much thinner, of course. I only received three small perogies as the schnitzel accompaniment. The beef soup came in a tiny bowl the size of a shot glass or small dipping bowl. From a taste perspective, I found the food quite bland and lacking flavor. The fries were limp and soggy. As for service, the waiter that dropped off the food didn't ask us if we needed any condiments, and it wasn't until near the end of the meal that they came by and asked us if we needed anything. The place was not busy (perhaps two other tables), so there was no excuse for this lack of service. Food was also overpriced for what you get. I recommend looking elsewhere for the best schnitzel in town. My favorite is still Concordia club, but J&B down the street is also superior if you want something more substantial in the same vicinity.

Why do regulars stop going to their favourite place? It's usually because it's just not the same anymore. That was our experience when my wife and I stopped in at Metro for an early dinner. Drinks: The beer was good but my wife's cocktail seemed to be very light on the spirits and both were a bit less than full. Schnitzel: Delicious and crispy and always. Sides: This is where we had a problem. Her mashed potatoes were lumpy and lacked any flavour/salt/butter. My home fries - the standard german bratkartoffeln, tasted very old and stale, were burnt, and clearly microwaved as they were tough and chewy, with no seasoning. That simply ruined the quality experience we had come to expect. Our server, after delivering the meals, disappeared until it was time to get the bill. I pointed out the potato issue, and asked him if he would eat something like this. No reply and no apologies when the bill came. Things just aren't as good as they used to be...

My husband and I stopped here for a weeknight dinner and ordered the Paprikash with spaetzl and sauerkraut, and the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel with home fries and red cabbage. The Paprikash looked a bit different from the Hungarian ones I've tried, but it was delicious. The Schnitzel was crispy and cooked well inside, but it was underseasoned as were the home fries. Portions were generous and prices are quite decent for what you get. The staff were friendly and welcoming, albeit service was on the slow side. Our meals came with a small starter so it wasn't a big deal. Overall, I was happy with my experience and wouldn't mind going here again if I'm in the area, but I wouldn't seek it out.

I'm not entirely sure how long this place has been around, but I am sure it should be a landmark! A terrific experience. We arrived early and had the place to ourselves. That was short lived. Filled up in no time. And I know why! The food was great. One of the best schnitzel I have had the pleasure of eating. Sausage soup was out of this world. So simple and so flavourful. Portions were really good too. U can't remember the beer I had, but it suited the meal so well! Atmosphere is really special. A number of smaller dining rooms that make the while experience intimate. Parking is plentiful too. When I am in the area I will definitely go back.

UPDATE: Another exceptional experience here. If you’re looking for delicious, European cuisine with traditional Czech style schnitzel, this is your go-to in Waterloo Region. Personally, I’d skip the fries and enjoy the mashed or upgrade to spaetzle. Servers always friendly no matter how busy they are! Excellent schnitzel dinner enjoyed here. Made reservations to ensure we weren’t disappointed. Ordered the platter for two- delicious and plentiful! You can pick your own sides and starters (their soups are always excellent) and the 4 schnitzels are large. We pay the extra to switch up the schnitzels to our favourites. Worth it! Fantastic food!
