How to turn good food into a bad meal 101 taught by our server Friday night
I called Friday morning for a reservation for 8. I asked for 630 since their website said it closes at 8pm. I was offered 645 and accepted that. We arrived at an almost empty restaurant. Our server took out drink orders and food promptly. The schnitzel was well received by all who had it. I ordered the smoked pork chops. They are cut thin this creates an issue keeping them moist and that was the issue here . At least 2 bowls of soup were ordered. One was being shared by a couple as a sort of shared dinner. The other ordered by someone who had ordered a main. Both soups came out with the mains. This was the beginning of the communication issues that the server could use a refresher course in. Why would someone ordering a main dish want their soup with it. If you're not sure, your job is to ask. In retrospect it appears he was in a hurry As we sat at the table chatting our server refilled water as requested and the clock ticked. They also have a card on the table with dessert and I'm sure they have coffee but we will never know because none was ever offered. At 823 he was standing behind the bar, we asked for the check that was also never offered. His snide response was sure since we closed 45 minutes ago.. Ahhh now his curt handling of any after dinner anything is clear. He thought we were keeping him. Here are the rubs 1 I asked for a 630 table and he offered a 645. He was under the impression that the place closes at 730. Why offer a 8 top a table knowing you close in 45 minutes. Especially if he thinks it's a 730 close. 2 if you offer a table 45 minutes before you think the restaurant closes, maybe you have some responsibility to say I can seat you then but we close at 730. 3 at the table at some point a responsible server would give the table some idea the restaurant is closing. Turning off a light off on the back where no one is isn't saying by the way we close on 10 minutes 4 if you offer the table then offer full service such as coffee or dessert or if you can't then don't offer the table. 5 make sure your website not Google which also shows 8pm closing but your own website has the correct hours. It isn't our fault that we actually read the hours on your own website. (I took a screenshot of your site with the 8pm closing ) Maybe the server would be helped by reading the site too. 6 simply communicate. is there anything else or can I bring you the check. Had he done that and we stuck around he could be reviewing me a poor guest instead he is the poor server with terrible communication skills . He didn't know but 3 of the 7 at the table are former servers all within the last 10 years and 1 current. They suggest being as obnoxious as your comment was to people who are about to decide what to tip you might not be in your best...
Read moreThe trips our party of 4 does to St. Jacobs, the main street and her Market has always proved to be a Great trip we've shared with Family and friends and would highly recommend. And to this in mind we all wanted Schnitzel and were willing to travel to Kitchener/Waterloo to get it- after looking up the best Schnitzel Houses - Veslo Family Restaurant popped-up near to our location and when we arrived at what looked like a residential neighbourhood with a "I'm not sure patio" beside its parking lot-the saying-don't judge a book by its cover- comes to mind and again proves it self to be a truly wise adage. In all fairness we came real early for dinner cause we did 14,000 plus steps and we were famished. Well this restaurant is family run - an exceptional cook disguised as this restaurants Mother with her 2 sons. The one son didn't know what to make of us, ordering beer with a wedge of lime and appeared at first to be distracted and not attentive-well we were early-4:30- But when the beer came and we ordered our Schnitzels-2 with tomato sauce and 2 with mushrooms, onions and gravy, he caught his breath and forged through. The Schnitzels were Heaven on Earth, Mama had a recipe that a Michelin star critic would appreciate...WoW was this good, really good. I had to ask our waiter-her son- if it would be OK to tell her personally-Yes and I did. I can't tell you how much she and her sons appreciated this ovation and I really mean it---Thank-you for this culinary treasure and experience. Both sons were there and both would make any mother proud....remember to bring your own lime, just in case. Your appetite and demand for taste will be...
Read moreGreat eastern European / German home cooking! (& we've eaten this cuisine in Michelin-rated restaurants in Germany, Switzerland & Austria & Oma's home cooking!!). Wonderful friendly service in a small, warm atmosphere. Good European beer! We ordered the combo platter for two which included Chevapi, Weiner Schnitzel, pork chop, Serbian sausage & a huge Serbian Schnitzel (which is schnitzel rolled around cream cheese! Soo good!). Homemade coleslaw & perfect home fries completed the meal. All for $38.+tax+tip. We were so full that sadly we had no room for dessert or coffee! Next time! Apparently they have a location in Grand Bend also which is still family-run. Don't judge the book by its cover . It's in a residential neighbourhood in an unassuming building. The food, service & ambience inside are excellent by big-city standards. They only take reservations for larger groups as it's a small place. Just go, schnell! A word of warning.... I had a bad stomachache that night after dinner. Perhaps all the fried schnitzel, fries& salty coleslaw...
