This place is a joke. The coffee is terrible. Watery and weak. I sent it back which is something I've never done or even considered before. The grilled cheese special for $14.99 was two pieces of bread with two cheddar cheese slices and a tiny bit of shredded white cheese. The split pea and ham soup was watery, with no ham. See photo. The chicken & waffles breakfast - the chicken pattie was a flat piece of breaded overcooked chicken. The waffle was good but came with no butter. I had to get up and ask for syrup after trying, and failing, to catch our servers attention. For the senior's breakfast, the poached egg was served in a ramikan and did not slide out but it was cooked to medium as ordered. The two servers behind the counter were either talking to each other or checking their phones. Then one of them put an empty box on top of the other one's head. Yes, this really happened. Neither came to clear our dishes away once we were finished.
It's sad to see this happening as The Wooden Nickel was a much loved restaurant for years. New owners...
Read moreThis place use to be a cute little cafe but this time around it wasn't the same experience unfortunately, it was a 10 minute wait on saying for drinks, atfer that it was a longer wait to order our food in the mean time our server was on her phone, and avoiding her other tables the only way I got our order was by looking at her but three times she smiled and didn't even make an effort to come over or talk to other tables, she was stand offish, the food was great get sizing and tasted great my other complaint is the fact we didn't get checked up on once, I had to walk up and grab my own ketchup from a different table, the other waitress was doing every table and taking care of customers properly, thank you to her but to the other girl learn work ethic and learn to do your job if I were to go back it would be for take-out so I don't have wait what felt like a...
Read moreFinally stopped in at the Wooden Nickel for breakfast after many drive pasts on route to Kelowna. The place was quaint with a surprisingly good number of tables. Ordered coffee and the breakfast special. Service for the initial cup of coffee was fast however refills were far and few between and the price for a cup was quite expensive. More than I’m used to paying from a cafe. Service was on the slower side, not exceptionally friendly ( had a sign on the door seeking wait staff). When the breakfasts came our coffees were not refilled, only once we were done eating were they refilled. The breakfast was basic but tasty. I was disappointed that they served deep fried hash brown patties and not homemade potato hash browns. They did have homemade sourdough toast that was good. I can now officially say I tried it but will not be a repeat customer...
