If this was just a review about the food, it would get a great rating. Food was good. Portions on the small side but we were in for lunch so that’s ok. Prices reasonable within the context of recent inflation.
Problems with their beer. 4 local crafts on tap. My party ordered 3 of 4. All beers arrived flat. Politely alerted the server who took them away. I suggested they were probably out of CO2 gas. My daughter’s 7up was also flat. I thought she had ordered water. I proceeded to order the 4th “untried” beer because the server said that kegs already have carbonation in them. While this is true, CO2 is added to not only push the beer through the lines and to the tap, but also to add carbonation to the beer so that it tastes like it should from the glass. Alas, the 4th beer was also flat. So all 4 kegs from 4 different breweries were flat? Hmm, I don’t think so.
After I alerted the server once again about the 4th beer, a very combative and condescending gentleman walked towards our table, reached over in front of me to grab said 4th beer, and immediately began challenging my knowledge of beer. Listen, I was born at night, but I wasn’t born last night. I’ve drunk a few beers in my day and I know when a beer isn’t right. I assume he was the owner and I was left aghast that the owner of a small, seasonal restaurant, would treat paying customers this way. It was like it was me who was wrong and knew nothing about beer. The correct approach would have been to apologize for the beer not being to my standards and assure me that the issue will be fixed. Offer alternatives. Instead, I was told that I probably shouldn’t order their beers on tap because they apparently aren’t up to my high standards. Umm, bro, I literally just want my beer to taste like beer.
Anyways, have frequented this establishment a number of times over the years. This will be our last visit, so I won’t have to avoid their beer taps going forward. We’re supposed to support Canadian, locally-owned, but guaranteed a big box restaurant would not have made me feel like my knowledge of beer wasn’t up to snuff.
If you don’t have the pleasure of having to interact with the owner, you’ll probably be happy here. If anything does go wrong, expect to be made to feel as though it’s somehow your fault for it. The basics of customer service completely lacking...
Read moreA fantastic experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly smile and seated right away. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. It’s always nice when service feels genuine, and that’s exactly what we experienced here.
The breakfast menu had a great selection of options, making it hard to choose! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they put effort into using high-quality ingredients. The portions were just right too—not so small that you’re left wanting more, but not so big that you feel stuffed either. It was the perfect way to start our day.
The restaurant itself has a really cozy and inviting atmosphere. It’s one of those places where you can sit back, enjoy your meal, and feel completely relaxed. The decor is charming and fits the beach-town vibe of Grand Bend perfectly. Even though it was fairly busy when we visited, it didn’t feel chaotic or noisy, which was a nice bonus.
What really stood out was the combination of great food, friendly service, and a welcoming environment. It’s clear that the Lake Hound cares about creating a good experience for their customers. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Grand Bend, this is a breakfast spot that’s well worth stopping by.
Overall, we had such a good time here and would absolutely come back. If you’re looking for a place with delicious food and excellent service, the Lake Hound is a must-try. I’m already looking forward to my...
Read moreAll I can say, is that I’m so glad we didn’t settle for our hotel’s breakfast before our trip back home, and that I’m sad we didn’t come here at the start of our trip to begin with! I’m usually not the type to write out reviews, but I started this one - in their parking lot, on the way out! Everything was absolutely perfect, the food/drinks/service/and overall vibes. The restaurant grew very busy quickly, to the point where a long line out the door formed and trickled into their parking lot. All we kept saying to each other was that all the staff were so incredibly kind, and kept such high spirits during the busy time. The staff were SO bubbly, and you could tell they all shared a healthy working relationship and worked together seamlessly. They were all laughing together, smiling, and joking around! It was so refreshing to see! Our server Riley worked so hard to make sure we had the best breakfast and she went above and beyond to make sure our meals were perfect. She even noticed our Morgan Wallen shirts, and made an effort to have a relatable conversation with us! Everything was so incredibly wholesome! I fell in love with the ranch dressing (seriously THE BEST ranch), and she sent me home with a side of ranch. Best souvenir! They should sell their ranch! Overall, everything was perfect! We couldn’t be more satisfied! We can’t wait to come back! If only this was a restaurant closer to home!!...
