Maritimers of the world, rejoice. You have unlocked your memories and found the Donair Pizza of your distant childhood dreams.
I have lived in Toronto for over a decade, long enough to almost forget just how bad Chain Pizza in Ontario is. Until yesterday that is. The problem with Pizza in Toronto, is that it is literally ALL terrible no matter what you pay for it.
Pizza Delight is a beloved Maritime tradition, where pizza is made with that unique sweet tomato sauce, and your pizza always comes with a side of Garlic cheese Fingers, something I'm shocked and actually quite dismayed that Ontario doesn't have even an awareness of. (I'm assuming a lot of the reviews here are talking about them as garlic bread? No this isn't garlic bread it is garlic fingers give your head a shake).
In my random travels in rural Ontario I always stop at PD, and I have got to say my experiences have not consistently been positive, because I assume that they have had to modify their recipes and ways to be accepted by the Ontario Pizza consumers who've been Stockholm Syndromed into thinking that Pizza Pizza is the standard, in all its burnt, hard, sauceless, toppingless "glory".
But the grand bend location NAILED IT. It's exactly the experience I remember from home, complete with the Donair Sauce, which I've yet to have in Ontario match exactly as a remember until today.
It's so good, and anyone who leaves you a bad review has been Ontarioed into thinking Bad Pizza is...
Read moreWe ordered a signature veg pizza, cheese rolls and kids cat pizza combo. The pizza was pretty good with freshly made base and loads of toppings and juicy sauce. The cheese rolls were okayish as we found them too bland, could skip it. The kids pizza looked very cute with cat face made on it with candies. Kids combo came with chocolate drink and chocolate ice-cream which should be a hit amount kids. I'll rate service as 4 on 5, as the server was friendly and helpful, just that he was switching between the restaurant and the kitchen frequently so wasn't available for quick requests - not his problem may be just overloaded. The only reason for giving one star less is surprisingly for an Italian restaurant they didn't have seasonings (oregano, thyme etc), which could have made the bland cheese sticks taste better. Though they helped us with pepper powder and garlic powder, I'll suggest they must have oregano and other Italian seasoning available for customers who prefer it. Ambience and location are okayish, not wow as it's not beach facing...
Read moreSmall place in Grand Bend but really good pizza for a chain restaurant. Pizza Delight is huge on the east coast of Canada and I like that they are holding there own on the "west coast" of Ontario. Since this is an east coast franchise, they make Donair here as well, including Donair pizza!! Both are delicious! Try it, try it, try it! This restaurant is much smaller on the inside then it looks on the outside however they compensate by having a tented picnic table area in the parking lot directly in front of the store. (Likely seasonal but unsure.) This was perfect for us as all of the inside tables were full so we just ordered our meal "for pickup" and took it outside to eat. It was quite nice. If I had any concerns, while we ordered online, it seemed to take a while for our food to be made. This might have been due to it being busy (as mentioned, no...
