Salty's Fish and Chips — Restaurant in Langford

So this was my first time visiting Salty's since I got to the island a year ago today! Now I’ve been in the restaurant industry for years, back of house as executive chef and front of house as a manager and bartender.

Now the food was great! Large portions, great batter and fry on the cod, perfect coleslaw and the tartar sauce is amazing. Where this restaurant crashed and burned for us was the service! The 2 girls working tonight were horrible. They took the order which we had to verify as the order she told k was incorrect and had to add onion rings as I asked for a substitute and she forgot it on the order I had to reminder before she walked away.

After receiving our order the blonde girl touched the table once even though both girls on the floor looked at me and my empty glass and just stood there chatting. Now the place wasn’t busy at all so it finally took my wife asking for a refill to finally get a refill and when she brought it to the table I said thanks and she just dropped it and had this look like we inconvenienced her.

Once we were at the bill paying point we paid and keep in mind we both have been in the industry for years and we tip 25% most of the time. The girl who brought me my refill looked at the 15% tip and basically gave me the F you look and just walked away.

These girls were young and maybe they lacked experience or maybe they really received poor training but the difference between the bill She got and the bill she would have got was a difference of 30 bucks.

Not sure I’ll go back but if I do I hope the owners/ managers use this experience as a learning experience and help these girls reach a level of service that this restaurant deserves and will be known for...

If I could give this place zero stars I would. If you want to waste your money this is the place. Not only did I listen to them for 15 mins disrespect a previous customer, I had to listen to them swear and talk about drinking. I mean if your going to run a company dont let your paying customers listen to that while waiting for take out which took longer than told. As well the fish was undercooked. The fries were burnt but somehow soggy at the same time. AND TO TOP IT OFF THE CHICKEN STRIPS FOR A CHILD WERE PINK ON THE INSIDE!! Oh and I forgot to mention I paid for food I didnt even get because they were too busy gossiping about the previous customer. A heads up there are way better places to spend your money in Langford, I'm shocked this place hasnt been shut down. Came here tonight with my wife we have never been here before it was busy we were greeted immediately; server was very kind and attentive; she explained meal options I just wanted a beer but she told us about the special which comes with a beer 🍺 so I took that option! My wife had the one piece halibut and fries: 😳 sooo good!!! They make their own tartar sauce and they also make their coleslaw from scratch. The fish was cooked perfectly crispy outside and moist tender meat inside. Yam fries were stellar, the atmosphere was good lots of people seems like locals like it here.
