Hey there! So, I swung by Motte's Cafe Verde in Lethbridge recently 'cause I heard some good stuff about their Mexican food. First thing I noticed was the parking lot was kinda empty and they closed early, which had me raising an eyebrow.
Inside, it was clean and all, giving off this cool Mexican vibe with the simple chairs and tables, and a fridge stacked with canned drinks. But the place was a bit too dim for me. There were three signs on the wall. The first one was about how to order, the second one had pictures of the food, and the third one was a story about the owner who moved to Canada in '04. The pictures of the food weren't exactly making me drool, you know?
So, I went up to the counter to order, and the guy there (owner, maybe?) was not as friendly as I'd hoped. I asked for some advice on what to pick, and he kinda brushed me off, telling me to choose from the pictures on the wall. I mean, that's a first!
Anyway, I went for a burrito, but had to pay extra for beef. It wasn't a huge portion and set me back 19 CAD - felt pretty steep to me. It tasted okay, nothing wow about it. Felt like the same stuff I've had from food trucks down at the Mexico border, but those were way cheaper.
So yeah, I think the place could do better, especially with being friendlier to customers and giving more bang for the buck. I've always known Mexicans to be warm and helpful, and I missed that here. Maybe the owner's time in Canada has influenced the way they do things - just a thought.
That said, I see that the place has some pretty high ratings online, and a bunch of folks seem to love their food and vibe. So, maybe I just caught them on an off day or something.
Anyway, I hope this review helps out. We could really use some awesome Mexican food in our little town of Lethbridge, and with a few tweaks, Motte's Cafe Verde could totally...
Read moreGreat Mexican food and great atmosphere. Possibly one of my favourite Mexican restaurants in Lethbridge.
The menu was a bit confusing the first time I went, but the staff are very friendly and helpful with it if you ask.
The pricing isn't too bad, some can be a little expensive, but for the most part is reasonable for what you get and how filling it can be.
The food itself is very good. My favourite is the 2 enchiladas. I usually get the ground beef, but I like most of their meats they offer. The refried beans are good as well with nice flavours. The rice isn't too bad, but some rice grains were not fully cooked but it didn't bother me too much. The pico de gallo is very good and my personal choice of dressing is the Mexican coconut. It has a nice coconut flavour that isn't over powering with coconut, is also creamy and goes well with the salad. They also introduce the Mexican hot chocolate a couple years ago and is now one of my favourite hot chocolates to get. There is a little spice to it and really brings out more flavour. Lastly, the guacamole is very good too. It's nice and creamy, seasoned well, and lots of flavour to it.
Overall, Cafe Verda is a great casual place to get some great Mexican food when you get the craving for it. I would highly recommend going here if you have never had Mexican food or looking for good...
Read moreFor a fast-food Mexican experience - this was excellent. Sadly they had run out of guacamole- but, that’s ok. We started with the queso cheese dip and natcho chips. Nothing too exciting. But - bring on the double beef enchilada and the birria corn tacos stuffed with pork and now we have ourselves an incredible dinner! The salad that came with my enchiladas was crisp and fresh. I had two choices of rice, black beans or refried beans, multiple choices for salsas, enchilada sauce and salad dressing. The birria corn tacos were jammed full of pulled pork, grilled with cheese to perfection served with a Mexican soup for dipping. Now, what I didn’t like was all the serving waste - my enchiladas was served in a metal tin and I was given plastic utensils. I recognize this saves on having to wash dishes but I cannot imagine the landfill contributions. I would have given five stars otherwise. Within the first 10 minutes of arriving there were at least 5 skip the dishes pick-up so clearly this is a well-respected local eatery. We are from out of town, would come back again and would recommend. All of the food handling employees were friendly; there was a young fellow cleaning and wiping the entire time - so this place is clean too! The interior decorum is adorable. We finished with...
