We had breakfast at August yesterday (Sunday) and it was simply fantastic. Others have complained about the decor - we were seated on the patio so I can't comment much on the inside decor, but it was a gorgeous day to be on the patio. Extra points for having a screened in patio, so you don't have to deal with bugs all over your food.
The waiter was very friendly and attentive, and had plenty of recommendations. There were six of us and we were all blown away by our meals. Try the warm scones with homemade jams (chocolate-cherry was my favourite), they'll knock you out. I had the eggs benedict on fresh biscuits with delicious hollandaise sauce and smoked ham, and it was perfect. Great homefries too - a mix of potatoes and yams, perfectly seasoned and pan-fried with a nice crispy texture.
My wife had the vegetable curry eggs and homefries and she loved it. I wasn't sure what to expect but I tried a bite of her meal and it was excellent - perfect curry seasoning that wasn't too hot, well-suited to a breakfast meal. The rest of our group got the eggs benedict as well, except for one person who got the "Amy's baked eggs" breakfast; he gave it high marks as well. All in all, a great breakfast experience and I guarantee that we will return.
My only complaint is that it's in Beamsville and I live in Guelph... But hopefully the success that is sure to visit August will lead to the opening of a Guelph location somewhere...
Read moreWe recently dined at August Restaurant (5204 King Street, Beamsville, ON), and while the evening held promise, the experience proved uneven.
We began with a Caesar salad and lobster tater tots. The salad was serviceable but uninspired — the kind of standard preparation one might expect anywhere. The tater tots, while conceptually playful, leaned heavily toward potato with only the faintest suggestion of lobster. Underseasoned and lacking balance, the star ingredient never truly shone.
For mains, we selected the beef cubes with pappardelle in pomodoro sauce and a salmon entrée. The pasta was well executed — al dente with a bright, properly seasoned sauce. Unfortunately, the beef cubes were tough, stringy, and dry, detracting from what could have been a hearty, satisfying dish. The salmon fared no better: overcooked and paired with croutons that had lost all crispness, it lacked finesse and textural contrast.
Dessert, however, provided redemption. The sticky toffee pudding was warm, indulgent, and beautifully done — the clear highlight of the evening and a reminder of the potential this kitchen can achieve.
Overall, August Restaurant delivered flashes of capability, particularly in pasta and dessert, but too many missteps in execution left the experience feeling underwhelming. With more attention to seasoning, texture, and balance, this could evolve into a dining destination worthy of its...

The wonderful staff, the fantastic food and the fact that the atmosphere, although comsmetically changed throughout the years, is still a cosy and warm-feeling place. I HIGHLY reccommend visiting once. I guarantee you'll be back!
ORIGINAL RATING WAS 5 STAR, changed to 3, due to our table server.
I wrote the above review some time ago. Now its 2020, and I visited Sat. OCT 3rd. The food, as per usual, was amazing! However, we were rather disappointed with our server. She was very nice however, non-attentive, and wasnt knowledgable in the food items, nor the alcohol. She would disappear and 10 to 15 minutes would go by, before she would return to the table. Also, had a beverage that was terrible, however no acknowledgment was made, or the bill credited or anything. The beverage was also 10 dollars, so it was not cheap. There were only 3 full tables inside, and one on the patio. A second sever was also working? I felt at the end she rushed us out the door. The experience felt extremely fake, maybe inexperienced, or maybe she just shouldn't be in the serving industry? Sorry, but she was a terrible server. And I do love my visits to...
