"A Hidden Gem: Where Noodles and Dumplings Have a Secret Love Affair!"**
I stumbled upon 老山西刀削面 (Shanxi Noodles) like Indiana Jones finding the lost ark, and let me tell you, this place is the holy grail of noodle spots! It’s like the best-kept secret in town, but I’m about to spill the beans—or rather, the noodles.
First off, let’s talk about those carrot dumplings. They’re so good that if Bugs Bunny knew about this place, he’d be making reservations instead of munching on raw carrots. Seriously, these dumplings are what dreams are made of—pillowy, flavorful, and totally worth every bite. I’d gladly sign up for a dumpling fan club if it meant getting more of these beauties in my life.
Now, the lamb noodle soup? Oh boy, where do I start? The broth is so rich and flavorful that it practically gives you a warm hug from the inside. The noodles are hand-pulled perfection, swimming in a bowl of lamby goodness. It’s the kind of soup that makes you want to slurp shamelessly, and believe me, I did! And the best part? The prices are so reasonable that I half-expected to see a "Buy One, Get One Free" sign at the door.
So, if you’re looking for a spot that serves up noodles and dumplings with a side of happiness, 老山西刀削面 is your place. Just don’t tell too many people—I’d like to keep it my little secret for...
Read moreThe restaurant is tucked away at the back of an office building, making it a bit tricky to find, especially at night when visibility is lower. If you’re visiting for the first time, keep an eye out for signs or use a map app to avoid getting lost. Once inside, you’ll be greeted by a bright, clean, and welcoming interior. The simple yet modern design creates a comfortable dining environment, perfect for a casual meal or a quick bite after work.
The highlight of the experience was definitely the noodles. They offer a small selection of classic options, which might seem limited at first, but every choice appears to be a winner. I only tried one of the options, but it was so flavorful and well-prepared that I feel confident the others would be just as good. The noodles had the perfect texture, and the broth was rich and savory, hitting all the right notes.
Service was another standout aspect. The staff were attentive and efficient. My food arrived quickly, and halfway through the meal, the waiter even checked in to see if I wanted to add more noodles — a thoughtful touch that I really appreciated.
Overall, I had a fantastic experience. The hidden location may be a slight inconvenience, but the quality of the food, friendly service, and cozy atmosphere more than make up for it. I will definitely be...
Read moreShanxi Noodles is a restaurant that I would never have known existed on the map, even if I were to live close by, if a colleague of mine had not taken me there.
All the noodles menu seems to have the same common base and then customized to your liking, e.g, beef, porc and spicy or not. I typically choose a restaurant that offers food creativity options that I would not be able to make at home and replicate that same taste or close.
I ordered the beef noodles with the option of adding spiciness. Ordering is done by taking a photo of the barcode stuck on the wall and choosing the menu which goes to my cart. Once I confirm, the order goes directly to the kitchen.
Service was very fast and pleasant. The size of the bowl was enormous and I wished that they could cut back on the size and by default, the price too. It was far too big for my lunch and half a bowl would have been enough, as the rest went to waste. Although the food was tasty, it looks plain, to the extent that there is nothing that I could not replicate at home. It is an ok menu but not one that would arouse my urge to have a repeat. Since most the rest of the noodles menu has similar common characteristics, it is as if I have already tasted all the different food...
