I’ve been going to Wuhan Noodle 1950 for about three years now. This place is in Markham and I actually discovered it thanks to my best friend, who is from Wuhan himself. The first time we went, he was practically bouncing with excitement. He recognized so many of the dishes and wanted to order almost everything on the menu. It really reminded him of home, and seeing that reaction already told me we were in for something good.
Since then, it’s become a bit of a ritual. Whenever I’m in Toronto for work, I make a detour to Markham just to eat here and usually bring some food back with me too. It’s that good. I keep thinking they should open one in Montreal. I’m pretty sure they’d be packed.
The food is the definition of comforting and flavourful. My top three recommendations are the hot dry noodles, the doupi, and the beef noodles. These dishes are rich, well-seasoned, and full of depth. They’re simple in presentation, nothing fancy, but the taste speaks for itself.
The space is small and pretty no-frills. Parking is easy, which helps, and the staff are lovely. Very sweet, soft-spoken, and polite. You’re not coming here for showy service or trendy decor. The place is modest, a little tucked away, but has that kind of charm that only really authentic places have.
Everything about it feels real. The portions are generous. The prices are fair. The flavours are bold and comforting. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t try to be anything other than what it is and that’s exactly why it works so well.
If you’re ever in Markham, I’d highly recommend stopping by. It’s one of those local gems you wish you had around the corner from...

The beef hot dry noodles are my favorite, with a slightly spicy and flavorful sauce that complements the beef well.
The crawfish hot dry noodles come with only three small crawfish, which is not a great value for the price. They were also too spicy for me, but those who like spicy food may enjoy them.
The pork rib and lotus root soup was decent and paired well with the noodles and vegetables.
The three delicacies bean curd skin was different from what I have had before. It had layers of glutinous rice and meat filling, while I'm used to having everything mixed together. However, I found the glutinous rice layer to be too thick and dense. I prefer it when everything is mixed together because it's less compact and has a softer texture. I also remember having had versions with more varied fillings like green beans and bamboo shoots, but this restaurant's version is mostly meat filling.
The cold mixed vegetables had a nice salty-sweet flavor and was appetizing, but a little oily.
I forgot to take a picture of the xiaolongbao, but for a Wuhan-style noodle restaurant, they were pretty good. The skin was just a tad bit thick, and the filling was average in taste.
It's difficult to find parking during meal times, but if you don't mind spending money, you can park at the Hilton parking lot next door...

This Local Family Run Restaurant serving fantastic dry noodles in the Wuhan, China Style came under some scrutiny earlier this year. Being someone who eaten at many restaurants in the Liberty Square Food Plaza and as someone who has eaten here before, I decided to bring our Food crew down to Wuhan Noodle 1950 to show our support. The signature dish at this Noodle House is the Beef Wuhan Dry Noodle and you can't go wrong for a quick high-quality Noodle Bowl. We ordered some of our favourite apps and bowls and went to town. We loved every bite and I'm sure we will be back.
Earlier this year and due to the fact that the restaurant simply had Wuhan in their title, this family-run Noodle joint was a victim of harassment from some less than intelligent folk. This did not stop the Markham Food Community from going there and showing our support. We must stand together in these trying times of Lockdowns and Delivery-only food to support our local businesses. When this Pandemic is over we do hope restaurants like this will still be standing. I love their noodles so does most of Markham and its thriving foodie community. Give them a shot and show your...
