New review on 2024/10/03--WHERE IS THE MEAT?!?!
Ordered roast duck leg on noodles in soup ( extra charge for the leg) and was served a skinny portion, in particular the largest piece of meat in the drumstick was missing!!!! Talked to the waiter and was told the rotisserie staffer would not agree to serving another plate of duck and that he would scold him profusely. Now is that my problem?!?! I told him I planned to write them a very bad review, then he reluctantly took the plate and he headed towards the rotisserie area.
The meat on the right side has hardly any meat and the parts on the left are the skeleton skin with no meat and just mainly fat.
The waiter/manager came back after talking to the rotisserie staffer (which I was close enough to hear him say he did not steal any meat) and said that's how the duck leg was. I told the waiter that's unacceptable and asked him if it was unreasonable to which he did not reply. The waiter then offered not to apply the extra charge for the leg and asked me to just accept the plate as is and I refused. I told him he's taken the dish to the rotisserie staffer back and forth talking about and probably over it, so I wasn't going to accept the same plate with their saliva spit over it!! He then offered to serve an uncut duck leg, which I turned down. Decided to just eat a bowl of plain noodles.
$16.50 for roast duck on noodles in soup vs $6.50 for plain noodles, which means they charge $10 for the plate of duck meat with hardly at meat. Mind you they gave plenty of sauce!
Never ordering this again and won't be visiting this location again either ..too many disappointments. +++ Super nice waiter Kenny--very courteous!! Felt like a valued customer.
Glad they installed plexiglass between booth dividers.
Superbly creamy Hong Kong-styled tea. We add our own sugar.
Pea leaves with garlic $18 was tremendously tasty albeit a bit oily. Pea leaves must be in season.
Fried dough wrapped with rice cheung fan is too crispy for my taste buds. These are usually bought already fried and restaurants re-fry them in their dishes.
Singapore noodles could be spicier...will ask next time.
Parking on weekends are usually tight since the restaurant shares parking with a grocery.
Great experience!
+++ Another visit:
Pineapple fried rice did not come in half s pineapple boat like many restaurants and it tastes awful...it was apparent that the chef didn't drain the canned pineapples enough. We barely touched the dish and when I reflected my comment to a waitress, this wonderful staffer offered to give me another fried rice. I had reflected my discontent with another waitress earlier but was told that's the way they cook/serve this dish. REALLY impressed with the second waitress and took action to please their customers as I felt like a valued customer and they genuinely care about pleasing their customers.
The pork bone congee tasted great If they could make the duck kidney thin slices into thicker chunks, that...
Read moreOurs could be a 1 off, but this is my family's experience at Congee Queen (Steeles) Before I lay out our regretful dinner, here is a summary... PROS -Good Food -Good selection of dishes -Good for large groups
CONS -Almost No Service at all (considering the amount staff) -We were the only non asians there & it seemed like that was why we kept getting forgotten about (I hate to learn that was the reasons)
They point to a table big enough for the 9 of us. Bring us 2 menus. We ask for more, it doesn't come, so I get up and grab them myself. We cant get anyone to stop and take our order, so we use the back of an old used Congee Order paper to write down our orders. Just pointing out, our table was not wiped down & papers were crumpled on our table (plus many folded within our menus) I got "Kelly #3s" attention and she took our order #s down (atleast she dbl checked on what our #s were) We asked for water from her as well but the food came before the water did (we had to get someone else to get it as well) When the large crab corned soup came they didnt serve it to us (in the west end mississauga, restaurants do that) Maybe that's asking too much & we're just too Boujee. But Mississauga Asian Customer Service has definitely been better in our experiences. No one came back to check up on us once for refills. The worst part was tryng to get the bill. It finally comes but no one is willing to take our Payment. We figure we're supposed to pay at the front. I wait in a line to pay & when it's my turn, the cashier takes 2 orders on the side, right infront of me. As I go back to our table my family tells me to look over to another table that has 3 servers clearing the table & taking care of their payment while seated. The last thing missed was getting out takeout containers. Took long and they shorted us. Asked for 1 more and that took long too.
Definitely not a language barrier as they spoke English well. There was a lack of service at our table but we couldnt figure out why. We will not be...
