KLN Cafe 九龍冰室 — Restaurant in Markham

First off, let me just say the milk tea is HUGE and I love it! This is probably the only location that does their milk tea correctly in my opinion. It balances out the tea and milk taste and gives more aroma to the tea side, which many cafes fail to do. I can't do much milk on anything so when my mom said that by default they do less milk already, I was SOLD. I usually get it with less milk and less sugar. This cafe can nail my order everytime and the portion is huge. Usually I can finish my milk tea given it comes in such small take out cups, but this one? This location's milk tea can last my whole day at work! Often times, I can't even finish it period! The food is okay depending on what you are getting. I didn't like the steak because it's over done and too chewy but the other breakfast choices are okay. I prefer the chicken over the steak option though. They make their condiments and sauces pretty good and it tastes good too. The only other problem is that they overly salt and season their food consistently so I want that to change. I like that everything is already included with tax so what you see on their menu board is the exact prices you're getting it for without having to do extra math to add it up. The atmosphere was obviously not to my liking because this fast food joint is set in a food court and though you come early and there's not many people yet, it's still equally as loud, so imagine when you come to the food court during lunch hour and the place is packed and hot too because they don't offer shaded tables to sit so you're not sitting on hot...

Food is generally okay. But I found that the attitude of one of the staff was disgusting. That staff I am talking about was a middle aged woman with short hair (and some highlights). A couple of months ago, I ordered some food, and, as usual, I got a number in return for my order. I waited for quite some time, and my food appeared to be not yet ready. I therefore stepped forward and asked the woman to see when my food would be ready for pick up. She took a quick glance at me without saying one word, and completely ignored my concern thereafter. I talked to myself: Do I look like a beggar?

Today, I visited the cafe again, and ordered a take out which is a combo with with a simple combination of beef/fish and spaghetti. I was given a number by the cashier who was a young girl whose attitude was much better. I waited for more than 25 minutes and I received no call for my number. I therefore stepped forward to talk to the above middle aged woman, like what I did 2 months ago, only to find that the food was already there for pick up. It had already stood there for at least 15 minutes! The food and hot milk had become lukewarm by all standards.

Here I wish to give a piece of advice to the middle aged woman. If you think the customer(s) does not merit a reasonable service from you, go and open a high-end cafe where by then you would earn huge tips form the customers. Do not torture yourself by working...

Recent Visit: We bought take out breakfast combos on a Saturday. They were extremely busy on weekends. The combo was good for value. The portion was reasonable and price was very affordable. The taste was not bad for a Hong Kong style breakfast. You can add extra $1 to your combo for a bowl of ham macaroni in soup. I didn’t like the texture of the macaroni but everything else was good. They open at 9:00 so this is a good choice if you want to grab a breakfast to go. You can also call ahead to order before pick up.
