This location brought back lots of memories as it's formerly was Frankie Tomatoes, I grew going there for ayce and luv the fried calarmari.
Moment we walked into the Luna Private Banquets, we were immediately greeted by a hostess standing right at the door to open the door and greeted us. Immediately, another staff asked for our name and guided us to our private room. We found the private room has nice decor, Chinese artwork and good sound proof.
I took a stroll around this restaurant and it's HUGE! Most of the dining tables are in a private setup. ONLY difference is that...most rooms have a complete private room with a private washroom. You can't hear other people. The main dining area is also have a private space, but the top is open which means you can hear other table conversation, but it's still nice to have a separation from other people.
The private room minimum charge is $888 CDN, which means it doesn't matter how many people you have dining in this private room, you have to order $888 or more for the use of dining at the room, which I think it's fair and reasonable, especially the private room could sit up to 14 people at least.
Before I came, I read on YouTube or Google Reviews that patrons are hard to flag down the staff, however, that's not the case for us as constantly the staff will come in to serve us tea or asked if we are ok or have any questions. I do, however, do think they should implement those Korean bell ring mechanism so it's easier for the patrons and staff to provide even more attentive services.
Anyhow, we had 8 people, we ordered a dinner combo at $388 CDN and a bunch of a la carte food items. I have to say, I was impressed with the number of food items that I had never tried before in my life, so it's exciting to try new Chinese authentic dishes. The use of ingredients and culinary skillz were top notch and I had never seen it before.
SUGGESTION: Since we ordered 10+ dishes, it would be nice if the kitchen could slow things down, space out the timing of presenting dishes. Coz during that evening, all dishes came out non-stop in such a quick fashion that we couldn't really enjoy each meal as we were busy trying to find table surface to place the food and we couldn't keep up indulging the food as they came out too fast. For a high-end luxury restaurant, I would expect food to come out in a timely manner with food space out, let the patrons finish some of the appetizers before serving dishes to avoid assembly line type of vibe.
From crystal pork jelly pudding to appetizers such as the plum mini tomatoes, they were refreshing to start off the meal.
The braised pork, stir fry sea cucumbers, bacon wrapped sweet & sour pork, fried shrimp with crackers were delicious. The chicken with shrimp paste was also interesting as well (you have to pre-order when you book ahead of time).
The ONLY item that most of us didn't like and we think it's a big MISS was the steam orange crab meat. It had a nice plating presentation but it got a weird aroma, it's a bit mushy with the crab meat and the ginger flavour didn't execute it for us. Again, this maybe a signature dish famous in certain part of China and everyone's taste buds are subjective. But this was the ONLY item that we were NOT a fan and can forgone ordering it.
Overall, we really enjoyed our meal here to celebrate a good friend's birthday. Just as we thought we all have tried most of the Chinese dishes that Luna excites us with unique dishes that bring excitement to our taste buds.
I am happy to share our dinner experiences here as I found most of the Google Reviews hover around Dim Sum and not much about dinner items, so I hope everyone finds my Google Reviews helpful.
We will definitely come back again for dinner and also for Dim Sum afternoon experiences in the near future. This new restaurant elevates a high-end, fine...
Read moreOrdering at this place is like opening a BLINDBOX. You will almost NEVER get what you ordered for, not even at the basic ingredient level. And the staff will NEVER take accountability, show you immense attitude and rudeness. Always saying “oh we’re going to change our menus, maybe come back when we’re done changing our menus” (WITH attitude). We asked for the bill, ushered twice, and she comes back saying “did you want the bill? I didn’t hear you. You have to wait for the bill now”. We are spending money to support your business, please have some basic decency and people skills.
Service: ABYSMAL. especially the attitude of the lady with the short hair.
The menu’s English translation is way off, the “vegetable spring roll” is actually a steamed bean curd roll, and we asked for it to get sent back (it just came and was untouched), and we were met with attitude stating “oh but that’s how our spring rolls are, some are steamed and some aren’t”. Ok, what about taking accountability for your company’s horribly misleading translation??
The scallion 饼 (pancake), is BBQ pork balls of puff pastry. (please refer to my photo). The pear shaped fried dimsum had 2 pieces of meat inside. The “coconut fried bun” is not at all coconut?? Not even the condensed milk.
Additionally, we tried to place a small order at 2:56pm and was met with another round of awful attitude stating they don’t take orders anymore because it’s 3:00pm, until the manager (?) came and helped us put the order through. A few minutes later, the short hair lady came back again full attitude saying their last call is 2:55pm and “is a company rule; not our fault, the kitchen mandates it”. To which I replied that we understand, but next time please warn customers ahead of time because we don’t read minds, or put up a notice somewhere in the individual rooms. Her response (while walking away and rolling her eyes): “well now I told you guys, so there’s no need for a notice”. Like 🤡????? What in the world is this low EQ horrible customer service??
We asked for a baby high chair 20382928292 times, got it after we went up to usher someone, and we were already almost done our meal. We got here at 1:30pm.
Food: you can honestly find the food anywhere else. They tried to make every sound fancy, everything ended up misleading. They also ran out of rice noodle and told us 25min after placing the order 🤡
Atmosphere: loved the individual rooms, it’s a new place so ofcourse it’s clean. The family room does not have baby...
Read moreI recently visited Luna, a new Chinese restaurant currently in its soft opening phase, and overall, the experience was a mix of highs and lows.
Let’s start with the Dim Sum, which was clearly the highlight of the visit. What sets it apart is that it’s freshly made to order (現做)—not frozen or reheated like many other places. This made a noticeable difference in taste and texture. The dumplings had delicate wrappers, the fillings were flavorful, and everything arrived piping hot. For the quality, the pricing is quite reasonable. If you’re looking for fresh, well-executed Dim Sum in the area, Luna is worth trying. I’d definitely return for lunch.
However, the dinner menu left a bit to be desired. While the service was friendly and attentive and the dining environment was clean and comfortable, the food didn’t quite live up to the pricing. The stir-fried dishes (小炒) in particular lacked the expected heat and freshness—they arrived lukewarm, which diminished the overall experience. Additionally, the presentation was very basic, resembling something you might see in a food court rather than a restaurant that charges 30–40% more than average. At this price point, I expected both the flavors and plating to be more refined and memorable.
Luna shows great potential, especially with its Dim Sum offerings. I would recommend it for lunch or weekend brunch, but I hope the kitchen team will take this early feedback to heart and make some adjustments for dinner service. Improving food temperature control, refining the plating, and elevating the overall flavor profile would go a long way in justifying the higher price tag.
Looking forward to seeing how...
