First - the price point versus portion of food served is excellent and fair, especially in today's garbage economy. All dishes were very reasonably priced and presented very well. Serving size was more than adequate to justify eating a meal only (i.e. you didn't need desert after to get filled). Waiting staff ought to make suggestions but that's minor - be proud of your menu, you have great options - make suggestions and "sell" to your customers. The chicken curry was excellent and better than most (if not all) Indian restaurants I've been too (yes, I'm an Indian, and I'm very picky about Indian food served in restaurants). Indian restaurants (by comparison) are exceptionally cheap and crappy about serving chicken based dishes (three to four micro-cubes of chicken buried in a lot of crappy out-of-the-jar sauce). The chicken in the chicken curry here, on the other hand, was plentiful, the aroma was excellent, and overall had an excellent combination of spices and presentation. This reflects a very good quality chef running the kitchen. The other dishes served were very good as well. One minor and one not-so minor comment about atmosphere. At night the restaurant is not very well lit inside but given this is somewhat of a pub-style restaurant, that's fair enough and somewhat understandable. The loss to the restaurant though is that there is nice stylized decor - but that decor is not shown off very well because of the dim lighting. The other point is not the restaurant's fault at all, but this restaurant is perhaps not the best place for family dining. Expect to see patrons with their feet on the furniture and especially in our case, patrons who cannot finish four sentences without endless strings of profanity. Pretty pungent marijuana being smoked on the premise too (I don't care if people like to smoke marijuana but doing that right outside the restaurant door reflects a trashy clientele). This is not so reflective of the restaurant given they have no control over who comes to eat there (this is Toronto / Markham so set your expectations accordingly). Since 2015 Canada has experienced steep cultural rot and decline - garbage governance leads to a garbage citizenry (keep voting Liberal and Doug Ford I guess). If not for some of the patrons, this would easily have been a five-star experience. However, the food and service were excellent overall. For young adults and adults not dining with children or grandparents, I recommend this restaurant. Including 15% tip, taxes, desert and soft drinks, four people can dine for under forty dollars per person - a very good deal all factors considered. For families with kids or grandparents, consider take-out. Overall still an excellent value and excellent food. Very nice and...
Read moreI recently visited The Owl: A Firkin Pub for our company’s end-of-year get-together, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! The atmosphere is perfect for unwinding, whether you’re with friends, family, or colleagues. The environment is inviting and laid-back, making it easy to relax and enjoy good company.
The staff members are exceptionally caring, friendly, and attentive, which added a warm and welcoming touch to the evening. Although pub food isn’t typically my first choice, the dishes here genuinely impressed me. The chicken wings were flavorful, the fried asparagus and calamari were cooked to perfection, and the nachos were hands down my favorite! The portions were generous, and the quality exceeded expectations.
We didn't order from the bar as it was a non-alcoholic gathering, but I'm pretty sure the bartenders and service are above standards.
I highly recommend The Owl: A Firkin Pub if you’re looking for a great place to hang out and enjoy good food, drinks, and excellent service. It’s the ideal spot for any casual outing or celebration. We’ll...
Read moreWe were at The Owl for our summer intern's final day. We had waited approximately one hour for food and our waitress only came around once to ask my group for refills. Not once did our waitress check on the status of our orders or provide us any reasons why our food was taking so long. When asked to split the bill, we were told that The Owl did not split bills on Fridays. We had thought the tip was included in the final bill due to the size of our party until we were informed it was not. We were, individually, ready to provide tip, however, our waitress stated that she was being "screwed out of her tip" in front of all of us. We then decided not to tip our waitress for her poor performance and verbal outburst. Our waitress then loudly announced that she was being "screwed out of her tip" in front of all the guests on the rooftop patio and to the bar tender. Not only did this leave a negative impression on all of us; it also ruined our summer intern's last day. We will not...
