ZenQ 小林家 — Restaurant in Markham

I went to have lunch by myself on a Friday since it is close to my work place. The lady who was serving was really rude.

First she gave me the lunch menu which had some things crossed out, so of course I ordered what was not crossed out. She came to me and grabbed the menu and said that I can't have it since it is crossed out and when she realized she was wrong, she said never mind. She dropped the pencil while doing this and waited for me to pick it up for her and didn't even say thank you.

Next she gave me a spoon and fork and no chopsticks, assuming I don't know how to use them. I know this isn't a big deal but the utensils are kind of large too use for a bento box, and when I asked her nicely for a pair, she didn't even look at me and pointed the chopsticks in my face.

Also, I often saw the staff looking at me and speaking to each other in their own language. I don’t mind if they speak in another language, but when you make it obvious that you are speaking about the customer, it makes them feel uncomfortable.

4.When it was time to pay I went up to the counter and paid cash. My intention was NOT to tip because she was very rude but when I gave her my money, she went right away and put my change in the tip box without asking and walked away. Tipping is mandatory, I am not obligated to tip, and the staff should know that you can't just take a customer's money for themselves.

Very good pricing for the amount of food you get if choosing the bento box options. There’s a wide enough variety of protein or veggies to choose from. Flavour wise, not much can be said compared to the Chinese food in Markham and Richmond Hill but pricing wise, it is quite economical to have a quick lunch here.

They used to have bigger portions, years back, but it’s quite understandable that they had to reduce portion quantities due to inflation. The quality of food has gone down though, compared to pre Covid time. Maybe the cook is different now.

It’s not the cleanest restaurant around. The interiors look worn down and the place is rather dark. The washrooms are not clean so if you can overlook all this and want to go for cheap food, efficient service, then this...

Server not very attentive, she just stared at the tv, and not keeping an eye on the costumer, even though there were only 3 tables. I have been sitting here for over 10 minutes, and even raising my hand does not even get anyones attention. While I had my hand raised, the server walks directly past me to another table. There are 6 servers but none of them are paying attention and apparently they are still hiring more people. When we managed to get our food, we ordered the monster shaved ice in the milk tea flavour, it was okay but the fruits, strawberries and mangoes, were not ripe and tasted slightly sour. the QQ balls did not taste that good as they were really hard in the middle.
