WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!! Service is zero stared. Atmosphere? Ha? Sushi Deluxe tray (picture 1) Say it takes 5 - 10 minutes to make, sound reasonable, right? Futomaki (picture 2) Add an order of Futomaki takes another 5 - 10 minutes to make, sound alright? What if I tell you it will take 40 minutes of waiting for nothing, and when they realized it’s MISSED, took them only less than 5 minutes to correct their MISTAKES??? Ordered it at 3:45pm Saw the chef making the Futomaki, but wait, why is he putting it into 3 boxes? May be he is making extra or the end cuts are going to sell at a lesser price. Assorted Sashimi (picture 3) After 10 minutes, picking up a tray of sashimi, thinking it’s about time for my orders to be ready, since the chef is making the sushi. The Futomaki and the Uramaki for the deluxe tray are completed. A different staff processed the payment and attached the 2nd receipt to the original receipt. And placed the sashimi box underneath the receipt. Waiting and waiting and waiting. Chef continues to make more trays and other sushi, torching some sushi, making more sushi… Other customers came in, selected things, asked questions, placing orders, getting their orders and leaving the store… Wait, how come I am still waiting when the chefs looks like are done with all the orders and stopped doing anything? The sushi chef even went over to the other side to work on something else? When I ask them about my order, they then scrambled and tell me it will take 5 minutes. It’s clearly they missed my order and trying to make it fast. I don’t want them to do a rushed job, I tell them if they MISSED, just take their time to make it. I already paid for it, saying it will only take 5 minutes to make my MISSED order to try to keep me there is just making things worse and for sure to make me MAD. Then less than 5 minutes, the orders are ready and packed and placed in a bag.* WHY keep looking at the clock!? It already took extra 40 minutes of waiting for nothing, I don’t need to wait for you to look at the clock! As I pick up I asked once again what happened, they could even come up with an excuse. They say it PROBABLY MISSED, no! It’s clearly MISSED! They then say “Would you like us to refund the Futomaki to make things right?” NO! It’s not like you forgot about the Futomaki and caused the delay. And questioning why the order was MISSED is not a way to try to get some money / discount! Why can’t they admit that they MISSED and apologize for it? And acknowledging that the customer’s time is valuable that they would apologize for it? * When I pay for the order, the staff asked if I want to pay $0.10 for a bag, I said no as I don’t need a bag, I am going to carry this out to my car and put them in a cooler bag. I don’t want more plastic bag. When they placed all my orders in a bag, I didn’t realize at first, then it hit me, and I start to untie the bag and take everything out of it. And they placed like 10 packets of soy sauces, I don’t want that many soy sauces. This has never happened since the early days when Taro’s was within the J-Town complex, or the store on Sheppard Avenue. As a customer for over 20(+?) years, this very likely to be my last visit to the store. I should have just cancelled everything and not have this meal altogether as this is making me furious! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!

I recently visited Taro's Fish with my family, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience that left all of us thoroughly impressed. From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, setting the tone for a delightful dining experience. What truly stood out were the impeccable options for customization. We decided to opt for the custom hand roll set, and it turned out to be a fantastic choice. The highlight for my kids was undoubtedly the fresh sashimi. The quality of the Bluefin Otoro, Atlantic salmon, Ika (squid), and Hapuku was exceptional, showcasing Taro's Fish's commitment to serving the finest and freshest ingredients. But the excitement didn't stop there. We were given the opportunity to craft our own hand rolls, and that turned out to be an interactive and fun experience for everyone, especially the kids. With slices of sashimi as the centerpiece, we added an array of side dishes to complete our hand rolls. The Nori, spicy mayo, tempura bits, assorted vegetables, and sushi rice gave us the creative freedom to design our perfect bites. One of the highlights of the experience was seeing the joy on my kids' faces as they carefully assembled their hand rolls. It was a creative and engaging way to involve them in the dining process, and they absolutely loved it. The staff at Taro's Fish were attentive and knowledgeable, offering guidance on pairings and ensuring that every aspect of our meal was perfect. The combination of outstanding ingredients, personalized customization, and excellent service truly made this visit to Taro's Fish a memorable one. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a top-tier sushi experience that caters to both sophisticated palates and family-friendly fun. Taro's Fish has certainly earned its place on my list of favorite dining spots, and I look forward to returning to explore more of their offerings in the future.

Ate here on the last Saturday of the year, around 1.5hr before close. There were some people inside, but it wasn't too busy and crowded. It also wasn't that loud inside. They have a fish market-grocery set up with pantry items such as chips, alcohol, fridges for drinks, fridge and freezer chests for fish, and regular fridges for other fish. They have ordering counters to order sushi and other menu items, and to cash out. They also have a separated dine in area. During my visit, there were 2 other groups seated. There's probably room for at least 10 4-person groups. They have an option where you can select and buy fish from the fish market area and they will cut it up for you and serve it in the method of your choice, e.g. Chirashi, temaki, etc. if you're like me and couldn't decide, they thankfully have other set menu items to choose from. I got the sushi deluxe set. When you dine in, they give you a limited drink menu to choose from but you get the option of hot tea for $2. If you want, you can buy the drink ahead through one of their fridges and bring it in. Last call for dine in is 1hr before close. The sushi itself was fresh. Personally not a fan of spicy salmon-type of rolls which it included, but it was good. The red snapper came in a plentiful portion, considering the rice was more like a filling to the fish and not just covering one side. The fish was fresh and not fishy in any way. I liked that the server asked us if we were ok with having wasabi in the sushi or if we preferred it on the side. We opted for inside. We were served disposable wooden chopsticks (though the quality was not bad), and packets of soy sauce in reusable bowls. Overall, I really enjoyed this meal. I've been going to their North York location for several years, so it was nice to be able to try this location out.
