First time here and the place was packed. We got seated after a couple of parties who had made reservations. Reservations in advance would be a good idea especially on the weekend as it was 7pm and we had thought that it was pretty late to go out and dine for the Markham area. They have 3 locations. The menu had a good selection of choices and many items that other sushi restaurants didn't offer. We ordered the Happy Boat (sashimi, sushi & rolls) and Mi Ne Tempura. It was plenty of food for the 4 of us. Miso soup was served to everybody and only 2 salads, as the Happy Boat indicated it serves 2. So if you want extra salads, you would have to order them. Our appetizer came hot and the tempura batter was light, flaky and not greasy, like it should be. The Happy Boat took a little longer as it was really busy. The presentation was superb and all the fish were fresh. The only thing that was missing was the attentiveness of the servers as we had run out of hot tea and none was offered to us even though servers came around to collect the empty plates and bowls. But that would not be a reason to not go to this place. The prices are reasonable for this inflationary environment that we are in. The portions are more generous than the other sushi restaurants. There's not much shrinkflation that we noticed... unless they were giving out even larger portions previously. A must try if you are in the Markham area.

Taste: 4 Service: 4 Value: 2 Presentation: 5 Overall: 3.8 rounded up to 4 Hi and welcome to another episode of javing it with Javier. Let's see what we're javing today. Today we are trying their fried yam rolls, and a plate of sushi and rolls. Let's dive right into the review. The fried yam rolls came on a small plate but there were a lot of yam fries piled on top. Trying one of them, it was packed with flavour and crunchiness and I couldn't stop myself from trying another. The plate on the other hand was very well presented. I really enjoyed the rolls but the fish on the pieces of sushi were not as good. The plate was relatively priced but I would definitely not pay 6 dollars for 6 yam roll pieces. Looking through the other items on the menu, most items are more heavily priced. They used to have superb service but I feel that has gone down lately. The employees are still very helpful and friendly however. In conclusion, their sushi pieces are OK but my money would be better spent on the rolls. And that's it for today's episode of javing it with Javier. And remember that food is life!

The spider roll is basically deep fried soft shell crab with crab meat, crab roe, and lettuce. This was actually very delicious - the crab was very crunchy and not too much batter, there wasn't too much rice, and the crab roe added a nice texture to it! I personally thought the presentation would be a bit more creative, such as the crab legs sticking out of the roll (after all, it is a spider roll)! Perfect taste though! Probably THE BEST California roll I've ever had in my life! I mean look at all the filling and the super thin layer of rice! There was so much crab roe the roll was actually crunchy! I'm super basic when it comes to sushi - I love anything with crab meat, avocado, and crab roe. The sashimi platter though was quite a disappointment. Most of the fish was salmon and there was nothing premium. Also the portions are kinda weird... sometimes there's 3 pieces of something and sometimes there's 4. Its a big portion for the price, but not a huge assortment and inconvenient. Overall rolls are good, sashimi is average.

UPDATE

At the beginning of our pregnancy, I asked my wide what would be an ideal push gift for everything she’s doing for us and she had simply wanted an entire sushi boat in the delivery room which seems crazy but I was determined to make it happen because I love her and she is incredible and deserves it for carrying our son for 9 months and abstaining from sushi and certain foods during pregnancy. I decided to reach out to @mine_sushi_markham where we’d always gone while dating and even when we got married. It’s a full circle moment because little Elijah was created in 🇯🇵! 🤣

If you scroll to last picture, you can see he is clearly not impressed that we finished the sushi without him: “Seriously mommy/daddy?!?!…. You couldn’t have saved me even a single piece of this super yummy sushi???…. Not cool….. 😏”

😅😅

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making my wife’s dream a reality @mine_sushi_markham 🫶🏻❤️🥹‼️ Hoping this is only the beautiful beginning to a long lasting partnership! We going to have to make it up to our little fella and take him to dine in when he’s old enough to do so 🍣🥢

Please support this local business at either locations for the best sushi you can eat outside of 🇯🇵

📍@mine_sushi_aurora 125 Pedersen Dr, Aurora, ON L4G 0E3 My girlfriend showed me this place and we've been practically exclusively getting sushi here when we're in the area as we both live nearby. Their sushi boats and platters and the best and always so fresh and delicious. The servers are always so nice and the food is good even when it's takeout. Highly...

For me, it’s very disappointing when a restaurant you really liked goes downhill.

We had a large assortment of sushi and sashimi, with some sushi rolls. Normally chefs are supposed to keep the fish on ice to keep it fresh. Yet, some of the fish seemed warm, which isn’t a good sign. Before I finished eating, my stomach was feeling a bit weird. When I got home, I had the runs so it wasn’t pleasant at all. I’ve had this happen at a few AYCE places, because the fish isn’t very good, but I didn’t expect this here. The miso soup was hot, but that’s all I can say…NO tofu; NO green onions or enoki mushrooms, very little seaweed and the broth wasn’t rich tasting…very disappointing. Before they’d served some fruit after dinner, but they cut this out, which is unfortunate. I guess there are new owners because before there were always women servers dressed in Japanese attire, but now it seems like there are mainly men serving the food. The staff was very friendly and nice, but it wasn’t as good as in the past. Very disappointing…we won’t be going again, even though we’ve been regular customers for over 10 years....
