Customer service and hospitality is terrible. As I walked in and took a look at the menu, the lady at the cash gave a smug look as I was still taking time going through the menu options even when there is no customer waiting. That was fine, I'm not going to make big deal out of that one. What really set me off was me asking the cash women if there is any nuts or peanuts in my order as I am allergic. She just didn't even give me bother taking a look when I was showing her a google transaction of "no nuts and no peanuts?" because I thought she may not understand me and the seriousness of this allergy if I simply communicated to her. When I got the green light, confirming the order is all good, I came to pick up my food after 20 minutes, she just gave me the food in complete silence not saying even saying "Thank You." And it's not just like that at this specific location. A behavioural concern I do have to mention is that Markham in general is dominated by chinese businesses, retail and restaurants, and other facets of the economy. For a non-chinese person, me, coming into their store inquiring about their products or taking a look around, they give me the coldest attitude as if I'm not supposed to be there. Yea, I get it, they prefer to do business and interact ONLY with mandarin-speaking clients. But to show unfriendliness, implicit xenophobia, and standoffish expression to non-chinese potential customers, they really are screaming: "non-chinese not welcome to our store." They already are doing this in China where they are closing off any form of connection with foreigners (or non-chinese) and slowly incorporating discriminatory measures to suppress and kick out the non-chinese population here in Canada. Now they think they can get away with it here, and they can because by now everyone should know Markham to this point is a chinese-owned state. They only want to have "their kind of people" living in houses, going to their restaurants, conducting business strictly within their own ethnic niche, and weed out the non-chinese from their territory because....they see themselves as better than all the other ethnic groups. Anyway, I don't want to get deep with this topic here on google reviews because the locus of the population just want a quick review and don't want an elaborate deeper analysis on figuring out the root to negative experiences like these. Now, hope this sheds light on a potential "why" for these places like Monkey Sushi and other chinese-owned businesses (some in Pacific mall, New Kennedy Square, First Markham Place) operating in Markham are so unwelcoming and bad in quality/service...
Read moreNot sure why ratings are so low. I have ordered from them twice and both times were very good. From having my order taken to the taste
Sushi presentation was great and I do agree that it’s not the best out there, but for the price, it’s actually very worth the price paid
You also get a great selection once you start getting into the platters.
They also have bento boxes, but nothing to brag about there. Would stick with the sushi from here.
Service was good for me. Nothing outstanding but nothing to also complain about. Once ordered ahead and one time was on the spot. Both times, my order came on time and with no delays. I do see what people say about the person possibly being rude, but in actuality, the person is trying to get all the orders in and turnover customers as quick as possible.
Parking in this plaza is very bad. Even though there are lots of spots, they get taken up quickly and you could be left circling the plaza lot numerous times. They do have a garage parking g underground which could be a better option to find a spot if you cannot locate one on the main floor.
There isn’t much aesthetic to the place as it’s takeout and a combined spot with a boba...

Monkey Sushi recently opened up their 7th location in Markham! To celebrate, they are currently offering their special monkey trays on UberEats, where you can essentially create your own platter (select sushi, rolls, & sashimi from their list). For ~$38 before tax, I got to select 9 items, which was almost 60pcs!
I was so excited, but when I went to pick it up, it was so hard to find (and very frustrating). I circled the plaza so many times until I called and was told that they are located within ShuYi Tealicious. They have a poster up on the door, but it can be easily missed, especially if all your attention is focused on the store signs. They should make note of this on their page.
The rolls & sashimi were not bad, but nothing special. What stood out to me first was that the rolls weren't cut evenly, but I was glad that, at least, they held together. In addition, the torched roll should have been taken out of the aluminum foil for presentation purposes. All in all, you get what you paid for. Good value sushi and kind staff, but don't expect too much from the quality and...
