For the longest time I had wanted to try Yin Ji Chang Fen but I always ended up going somewhere else since the food options in the area are so numerous. When i finally decided to come here I realized how much of a mistake it was skipping this place all these years. Now this is pretty much the only place I eat at when I am in the area as I love it so much.
I have been here on many occasions now and each time I try to have a different type of ji chang fen but also a few staples which I always order. We always do an order of curry fish balls, HK style milk tea, and the dough stick rice noodle rolls. The dough stick rice noodle rolls taste really good and feels fresh every time we have ordered it. We ordered this at another location once and it did not taste as good as the one at this location.
In terms of rolls, I have tried a number of them and you cannot go wrong with the basic pork & shrimp, shrimp & chives, and pork & chives options. Those always taste great. I have also tried the beef brisket rice rolls, shrimp & scallops, duck meat rice rolls. The only one of the three I enjoyed was the shrimp & scallops as I did not find the taste of the other two to be that special and the beef brisket one was really difficult to eat with the big chunks of meat.
The best way to describe the service is that it gets the job done effectively and efficiently. They bring you utensils, your food and the bill (though the last time we went we had to order via paper menus instead of QR code) otherwise nothing special. I do have to mention that the food gets to your table incredibly fast so even when there is a line to get in the wait is not that bad since the service is so quick.
The space itself is not incredibly large and at times when it is busy can feel a bit cramped but not too bad. The place seemed reasonably clean and bright so again no complaints there.
Overall, this is a great place to grab a quick bite at the reasonable price. It has become my go to when I am in the area and looking for comfort food so i definitely recommend giving it a try as well if you are...

Read moreFirst time on this restaurant and I ordered beef rice porridge, ovaltine drink and fishballs. Food was ok in taste but The entire porridge tasted like the green vegies they used. Ovaltine drink was good but it was tiny compared to the price. The fishballs barely had any sauce and you had to scoop the bottom of the plastic cup to get some. If you want napkins you have to ask or get up and get it from the counter. They dont serve it with your food. If you want to order you have to write it down on a piece of paper I guess this is because the servers dont speak alot of english or due to covid or they really want to cut down on server time taking the orders. No clue. Everything was served in plastic. Hot porridge? Plastic bowl. Spoon? tiny plastic spoon. Drink? thin plastic cup. Fishballs? Thin see through plastic cups. Take out? They will hand you a plastic cover for your plastic bowl and a plastic bag. They didnt even include napkins or a new spoon with the plastic bag. This is the only restaurant that Ive seen do this even the surrounding restaurants serve food in plates and solid utensils and give you a different container for take out. The only time the staff will approach you with a smile and will stay for a bit is when they hand you your bill and watch you while you are on the tip screen of the machine to pay. The rest of the time its get in get out quick like when they see an empty bowl- no talking just walks to your table, grab the bowl get out no words. No wifi- this is minor but may be a thing to some customers.
The place seems to be saving on money due to covid but man I did not expect for them to cut down so much good service and utensils. It may just be me because I have not gone to many chinese restaurants so maybe its a common thing there or maybe the time of day because it was at night at around 9 pm but I am sure I am not going back to this...
