I find myself strolling down 1st Avenue in Mission BC, where the valley air smells faintly of pine and promise. The kind of small town where, if you blink, you’ll miss the entire downtown—except you won’t, because there is Bee Thai Cuisine, glowing gently in the dusk like a lantern.
Inside, it feels like a place that has quietly decided to make your Tuesday evening unforgettable.
They brought the Drunken Noodles, wide rice noodles with the satisfying chew of an old leather-bound novel, tangled in basil, garlic, and chili that wakes the senses without apology. I could have sworn I saw the ghosts of my previous bad takeout decisions evaporate with each bite.
Then, Green Curry, the colour of deep jade in the rain, carrying the warmth of coconut milk and the slow-building flame of green chilies, spooned over rice that does nothing except perfectly exist under the weight of such a curry. The tender chicken and bright pops of green bean and pepper feel like they were meant to be found on a humid Bangkok afternoon, not a Thursday night in Mission, but here we are.
And of course, Chicken Satay, skewers of marinated, grilled chicken, charred just enough to remind you that fire is a friend when handled well. The peanut sauce is creamy, salty, sweet, with a hint of lime, requiring only the simplest ceremony: dip, bite, sigh.
At Bee Thai Cuisine, they are not reinventing Thai food; they are honouring it, with the quiet confidence of a place that knows exactly what it is doing. You find yourself scraping the last bit of sauce from your plate with the final grains of rice, then sitting back, realizing Mission just became a little more beautiful, because you now know this...
Read morewalked in and greeted with utmost attention by the staff closest to the entrance, seated immediately as there was just about 20% tables occupied. we were given menus quickly which is great and we immediately placed our orders where I ordered the authentic pad thai and picked beef as my meat. I had to use their washroom as I needed to change clothes probably took 10 mins, came back to an empty table when the table next to us already has another customer and was already served with ice water. I tried to wave for a server but no ine is noticing so I had to stand up and approach the front desk to ask for water. Our order came within the expected time frame but I immediately regretted ordering the pad thai with beef, the meat was as chewy as a chewed hardened bubble gum,…. I’m also surprised we were not given chopsticks just spoon and fork and so I tried to call the server and again didn’t even give a glimpse to our table. I walked to the front again to ask for chopsticks and this time asked for a pitcher of iced water as I wasn’t happy with the service any longer and the cook on the beef.
I wouldn’t order the beef pad thai again, or if I would I’ll ask the server to make sure it’s not overcooked. Now I have to rest my jaw from all the...
Read moreI don't know what happened but the lunch order of Pad Thai I was looking forward to had no flavor at all. It was beautifully presented and had chicken, as ordered and tofu as well as carrots, etc. It looked great. It was plated with all the accompanying chopped peanuts, an arrangement of sliced cabbage as a salad, and some fried, crispy wontons. It came with a delicious soup--the best part of the meal. I took a bite and thought I had gone taste-blind because I couldn't taste any flavor! I stirred around thinking I just hadn't gotten to the good part but I never found it. I had my partner taste it and he too could only taste the noodles, the oil, and the ingredients but no sauce! No sauce--no flavor! It was the weirdest experience. I think they forgot to include the tamarind sauce. I don't understand how they could have prepared such a standard Thai dish that had absolutely no flavor. I hope it was a one-time mistake but I'll never know because I won't go back again. Pad Thai is my benchmark dish when I try a new place. This was a complete failure and such a disappointment after reading so many good reviews. Bee Thai Cuisine...
