I LOVE THE PENNY!!!
Such a great atmosphere (though a little heavy on the Ed Sheeran if you ask me :P)! Cozy cozy cozy, my partner and I can't resist stopping in for a coffee date when we walk home from the train together.
Please hold on tight to your baker and never let her go! I am a sweet fanatic (and baker myself) and am pretty critical when it comes to baked goods, but everything I try at the Penny exceeds my expectations. Super impressive compared to other cafes and bakeries in the FV, even in Vancouver (and I've tried most!)
The girls are always super sweet and welcoming. Often higher end cafe staff can be stand-offish, but the staff at the Penny are great.
Very impressed with how with it y'all are while still being so new on the block!
The one opportunity I see at the Penny (because I can't help but be constructive) is improvement on barista skill. Coming from a history of cafes myself, I know barista skill takes a lot of work to develop, but the main focuses I see for you are: milk concistency (frothing too much or too little) and temperature (true lattes should be closer to drinking temperature than scalded, much better flavour and you don't burn your mouth!). I order a latte almost every time I'm in and while they're better than anywhere in the area, they could still be improved! Might be worth hiring a barista trainer if you haven't yet :)
Anyways, keep on keeping on and I'll keep coming!! So...
Read moreWonderful place but it was a little bright for my liking as I'm sensitive to bright light as is my daughter hubby said he was ok with it it wasn't super bright could be cause we sat in the middle area it does get a little crowded but even with more people there's still lots of space we played cards at the one end when we got there ate food came decently quick and on leave a couple of people sat at the other end of the long table people are very polite and there are some fancy people who come here so dress decently I wouldn't walk in in work boots and such you'll get a funny stare but jeans and a nice shirt and jacked or sweater would suffice the ladies are wonderful behind the counter it's a very content feeling and did I mention the food is tasty I got the tuna panini I'm not too keen on those much anymore but I ate it and it was good so even if your not big on something as much anymore it's still really super good Daughter and Hubby loved theirs a she had cheese and he had a pizza one I might try one of the other selections next time or the soup they get different ones every couple of days and she told me the flavors I dont remember all of them but there's a cream of cheese broccoli one I'd like to try maybe next time now that hot chocolate ohhhmyyyy! Read moreHere for lunch last week and have tried it a number of times of the last few years when passing through Mission. Food is very overpriced (see photos). The "Ham It Up" sandwich had one small piece of ham for a whopping $10.50! Good atmosphere and great staff, but highly overpriced for what you are receiving. Important to note that the price of these sandwiches has not increased drastically due to inflation...they have always been expensive. Chicken Pesto sandwich has mediocre taste at best. Lots of bread in both sandwiches with little meat. If they are going to charge these prices in the small city of Mission, these sandwiches need to be packed full of meat. Coffee prices expensive too. Positives are the local family-owned business and the atmosphere. Need work on the value...
