They've aptly named this place "Mess" because that is the overall conclusion.
As other reviewers have mentioned, all their "deals" posted online whether from influencers or themselves on IG or other social media platforms - do not exist. There are no weekday specials nor are any of their thalis, unlimited, with the exception of the vegetarian one. The parottas and other dishes are very small considering the price point it's at. The food is very spicy but mediocre. Between 2 people, we tried their non veg limited thali, mutton chukka, andhra chicken pepper fry, parottas and tea.
The two things that they absolutely and desperately need to work on is hygiene, cleanliness and maintainence of the dining area and basic civic service standards and etiquette. It felt like the servers did not want to be there - no pleasantries or interest in customer satisfaction whatsoever, just very transactional. They brought out the bill even before we were done or asked for it (we were there less than an hour) and left the interac machine there even though I had at the time requested that they bring to us when we were done as my guest was feeling on the spot and unnecessarily rushed as we were not done dining yet. The transaction on the interac kept timing out as the machine was left there on our table and so the two servers kept coming by to push the screen to extend the time.
As if this was not awkward enough, I leave the machine on the table next to us (no one else was there at this point but us) as we did not appreciate the constant rude interruption and distraction to our conversation and experience there. She literally picked it up and brought it back to us extending the transaction now for the 4th or the 5th time. At this point, we were flabbergasted at the lack of manners and self- awareness and asked her to take it away and bring it when we were done!
She took it to the front and then kept pacing up and down by us, aimlessly watching us. I don't know what was going on with her but it was a very strange situation. Then ofc we get attitude and it just ruined the experience. We got up in 5 minutes as we felt obliged to rush out of there even though they still had 3 hours to closing time and the place was empty at this point.
Although we left them a tip; still there was no apology or acknowledgement from this older lady server, whatsoever, knowing that we were upset. Non chalant and rude. Hopefully, the owner reads this and rectifies it. Hospitality is at the core of restaurants especially when the food is so disappointing. First and likely last...
Read moreNewly opened Andhra Mess is a restaurant you might miss, its location being inside a plaza, but it stands through taste. When my fam and I decided to eat some South Indian cuisine today, we were craving some Dosas. So we ordered Masala Dosas and I gotta say, this is honestly the best Masala Dosa I've had in a while. I've been to other South Indian restaurants in Mississauga (I've reviewed them too) and there's always been something I felt was missing. This Masala Dosa is exactly it. The Dosa itself was a nice blend of crispy and soft. The proportion of aloo sabzi (spiced potatoes) to Dosa was plenty and tasty. The sambar was out of this world, albeit you get small portions, but not worry just ask for more of no charge. (For now, we'll see when this place gets busier, which I see cause the food is banging). The chutneys provided with the meal were great, especially the Gunsmoke chutney. I had the Filter Coffee too, might I say, quite good compared to other places I've had Filter Coffee. All this said, the best I can say is the service. Our server Gitanjali was very accommodating and patient with our request. She was always near and asking if needed anything, getting our food quick while explaining the vegetarian options thoroughly. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to try some amazing South Indian cuisine,...
Read moreThe quantities are The smallest I've ever seen in an Indian Thali let alone for a place named " Andhra mess". The prices don't justify the food quantity at all. Some of the items almost looked like empty containers. I really can't exaggerate this enough, the pickle my partner got was less than a quarter teaspoon and they placed it in a deep steel cup. This was the same case with more than half of the containers. The poori which was served with the Thali came 10 minutes after the Thali was served almost as an after thought. It was extremely oily. The general impression was that there was no passion to serve and present authentic Telugu food.
Most of the items on the menu were not available there is another thank on the menu which I'm told wasn't a Thali but a combination of different rice items, after all which I thought was a bit misleading. The flavor and taste of dal and is alright and I had no complaints there. But was disappointing that I was still hungry and had to go grab some actual lunch right after eating there. For those who are not familiar with the concept of an Andhra mess. It is all about heartful wholesome Telugu food that will leave you with heart full of happiness and a belly full of great sleep inducing food. It is unfortunate that this place has that name...
