Went to try out California Sandwiches at 3018 Winston Churchill Blvd. Mississauga, ON for the first time ever, sadly, it will be the last time I ever visit.
There was no "order here" signage where the orders took place, so I stood behind a line up of people waiting for their food. Worse, the cashier behind the counter AND the sandwich maker all looked at me, made eye contact with me, and didn't correct me into standing where I should have stood in order to place my order. Other customers who knew where to stand were greeted with open arms with a hello and smile immediately after the people waiting for their food were given their meals.
I actually had to be assertive and say that I'm the next customer in line, which the customers apologized for, not realizing what had happened. But the person who should have said something was either the lady behind the sandwich heater making sandwiches, or the cashier behind the counter. Why would I be standing where I was if I hadn't placed an order yet? The cashier was ready to serve another customer that came after me instead of saying "just a moment, mam, this gentleman was here first". This could have been avoided if there was an "order here" sign.
Finally, once the cashier was ready to take my order, there was no hello, no "how can I help you", nothing. She just looked at me, stone-faced, like I was wasting her time. I little surprised, I started reading my order based on what I saw on the menu. "Meatball sandwich", I requested, expecting her to ask what I wanted on it. Nothing, she just stared at me. I realized where the toppings menu was and told her what I wanted on, she just said the price. "What?" I asked, barely hearing her - this girl put absolutely no effort into her customer service. She repeated what she said, which was the price. Finally, when my sandwiches were ready, the bag was just tossed to me and another customer was greeted with a hello and smile, something that apparently I didn't deserve. The lady making sandwiches also conversed with other customers before and after me.
It was like I had the scarlet letter on me. Perhaps all of these customers are regulars, and they don't like new ones? If customer service is important to you, consider this review when giving your money to...
Read moreYuck! I’m beyond disappointed with my visit. I am from Burlington and visit that location pretty much weekly and have never been disappointed it’s always amazing, fresh and the staff is amazing! Honestly my absolute favourite place to eat out! But I was in Mississauga running errands and saw the California Sandwiches sign and was super excited and always wanted to check out the other locations. First impression was okay, looked fairly clean and new (minus the soaking wet and salty floors and a few tables that could have used a wipe down also almost took a tumble out front because it wasn’t salted) the menu was slightly different and didn’t offer the chicken delux or any sandwiches without sauce, which my friend was extremely disappointed about since she doesn’t like red sauce. But ordered a sandwich without sauce anyway, they had no lettuce, no tomatoes, or anything like that. So she asked to a plain sandwich with onion and peppers. When she got her sandwich it has sauce on it even though she told them she didn’t want it or like it. My sandwich I always order looked okay. Bun was pretty stale. First bit was all breading, no chicken whatsoever even though I took a bite into the cutlet. Once I finally got to the chicken it was the consistency of cardboard and tasted literally like dirt... I was so sad. It tasted days old and wasn’t hot more like just over room temperature like it had been sitting out all day. Also ordered the pasta salad. It tasted good, and good noodle to veggie ratio. But the noddles were very under cooked. Boarderline crunchy... and also ordered French fries for my son and there was a massive chunk of something in them. And they were very soggy and greasy (the Burlington fries and pasta salad are very different. The fries are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. And they have a totally different pasta salad which we are obsessed with). I’m very sad because I absolutely love California Sandwiches! I have been going to the Burlington location for 6 years! But if this location was the first time I ever tried it I would never go back again. I hope they can make some changes and keep the...
Read moreYou wouldn't know it from this review, but I love California Sandwiches.
But .... this location in particular has always had its problems. From sometimes cheaping out on the amount of meat, to my last visit where instead of pouring sauce, the sour pussed young girl poured sauce covered water over the veal. I only ate 60% of the bun. My son and I sat outside on the truck tail gate and ate and I was hungry so I just ate the meat and whatever of the bun I could salvage.
After I ate, I thought I would go back into the restaurant and let the server know that this was the worst sandwich that I ever ate at a CS. She looked at me for about 1 second with a straight miserable face and said "sorry about that", and continued making a sandwich. Didn't ask why, or if she could do anything to help . Nothing, just a miserable face.
If you want the real experience, the store on Shephard a couple of miles West of the Allen Rd is good. But better yet the CS restaurant on the Queensway AT 427 is and is always great.
Honestly my advice I wouldnt eat at this location, I'll never go back. It's worth the drive to a better restaurant where they have consistency and...
