I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experience at Gold Cherry Bakery. After having an amazing experience here in 2021, I returned to order a birthday cake for my son. Unfortunately, both the customer service and the quality of the cake were severely lacking this time.
The ordering process was frustrating, requiring multiple calls and emails just to place a simple order for a number 5 shaped cake. Despite sending a picture and requesting a simple design with "Happy Birthday" in gold, the cake I received had an unappealing light brown color. While I accepted this last-minute change, the taste and texture were unacceptable.
The cake was incredibly hard and overly sweet - so much so that we needed water after just one bite. Out of 7 people, no one could finish even a small slice. My son, the birthday boy, didn't even have a single piece. I've never had such a poor quality double chocolate cake in my life.
I strongly urge Gold Cherry to address these serious issues with both their customer service and cake quality. For a children's birthday cake especially, this level of disappointment is unacceptable. I would also suggest improving communication by speaking directly with customers rather than relying solely on email.
There are many other bakery options available. Unless Gold Cherry makes significant improvements, I cannot recommend them and will not be returning. Thanks for your follow up, a courtesy call would have been more appreciated than offering a free cake. Not all reviews are given to have freebies, some of them are really straight from the heart. And yes even after getting a screwed up cake patience was kept while collecting the cake and that too only in anticipation that when kids will eat the cake the texture will be forgotten, however, I was wrong. Being in same industry, I can at least tell you one thing for sure, not having couple of minutes to talk to customers does not chime in with the best customer service. I phoned 7 times and all could hear is go online and select or write an email we will take care of the rest. Thanks for making the rest...
Read moreAfter seeing all the great reviews I told my in laws to order a birthday cake from here for my 2 year old daughter. We don't mind paying a premium price, but the service and the product need to match that price and we don't feel that it did at this bakery.
They spelled my daughter's name wrong on the cake, even after my MIL called and confirmed with them multiple times. Once I was even on the phone with my MIL when she was at the bakery confirming the spelling with the staff. It is not a long nor complicated name. The cake itself tasted fine.
Secondly, after already paying for the cake, my FIL accidentally showed up just 5 minutes before the store opening time to pick up the cake. The owner turned him away and was adamant about not letting him in yet. Since it was only a few minutes, she could have just offered him to sit down for those few minutes and wait while they get ready especially since he's a paying customer. The conversation probably took up those 5 minutes until the store opened anyway.
Little things like that turn people away and make them feel that the service and the product does not match the price paid. The cake was alright but for the price, we probably won't be coming back here again and will be going back to our...
Read moreI wanted to share my experience re: Too good to go that I picked up July 24, 24. I decided to try it this time since I've had some of their tasty entremets before on regular visits which were both delicately and meticulously made and had well balanced flavours while not being overly sweet.
The TGTG bag was generous with a chimney cake and 4 pastries. I noted that they packed the bag on the spot from some of the trays in the back and from the glass display case in the front.
Since we were not heading home just yet, we decided to eat the cake in the car a few minutes later and that's when I noticed that the gelée on the inside had MOLD on it. We had to chuck it, which is unfortunate because ultimately, one of the reasons for getting a TGTG bag in the first place is to prevent food waste. I understand the risks of buying such a bag but as a PSA, you may want to check your food since this cake was taken directly from the display case holding all the cakes for regular sale. Perhaps the fridge was not standing up against the summer heat and humidity that we've had recently? To the owners of the store, please look into this since I love French pastries and refined entremets and want to continue supporting local small...
