TL;DR: Ice N Spice might have a name that sounds like a forgotten Vanilla Ice comeback attempt, but their food is so good it's probably illegal somewhere. Get the butter chicken, get the biryani, cancel your plans for the next day because you'll be in a food coma contemplating how you lived so long without this in your life.
First off, what kind of psychopath names an Indian restaurant "Ice N Spice"? Sounds like a failed 90s rap duo or a sketchy vape flavor. But don't let the name fool you – this place delivers food so authentic it made me question my own cultural identity for a solid 15 minutes.
The butter chicken was nothing short of life-changing. That sauce, man. THAT SAUCE. Creamy, rich, with the perfect balance of spices that made me make involuntary noises I typically reserve for finding money in old pants. I started drinking it straight from the container when I thought I was done with the chicken – a moment that would have my mother questioning where she went wrong in raising me.
If butter chicken is the cool, popular kid of Indian takeout, then this biryani is that quiet kid who unexpectedly destroys everyone at the talent show. Long-grained rice flavored with what I can only assume is actual magic, studded with chicken pieces that somehow stayed juicy even after the journey to my place. Each bite had me closing my eyes like I was in one of those ridiculous food commercials.
The portion sizes are criminal. Like, "should probably ask if I'm hosting a dinner party" criminal. I've been eating leftovers for three days, and they might be better than the original meal. The spice level was perfect – enough to make me feel alive but not enough to make me regret my life choices the next morning.
The takeout containers were leakproof, which is the kind of adult observation I never thought I'd be excited about, yet here we are. Growing up is realizing good packaging is actually worth mentioning in a review.
Cost was reasonable if you consider therapy usually costs way more per hour, and this butter chicken provided more emotional support than my last three therapy...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed an absolutely lovely lunch here today!
Our server, Nitim, was attentive, friendly and helpful with our menu questions. We opted to share the Steamed Chicken Momo (dumplings) to start followed by the Ice N Spice Triple Manchurian Chicken special.
WOWZERS! Each dish was perfectly prepared, hot and delicious. The Manchurian Chicken was so enormous we took some home which will feed both of us again for lunch tomorrow. A very good value. The dumplings were divine. Soft and plump with two perfect sauces for dipping. The Manchurian chicken's ginger and spice warmed us up on this grey and rainy afternoon.
I appreciated how Nitim took the time to gauge our spice tolerance. We went with a medium level for our main and he brought out some very spicy green chilli and Szechwan sauces on the side should we want more heat. My fave was the Szechwan while my husband really loved the green chilli vinegar based sauce.
My advice if it's your first time here and aren't familiar with traditional Indian or Hakka cuisine is to go low on the heat level and bump it up after with their house made sauces. Then return and try something else next time because that's exactly what we'll be doing! Today's menu choices leaned on their Hakka side of the menu. Can't wait to try some of their curries and Indian specialties!
Needless to say our first experience won't be our last! I am already planning a group visit... I think a table of 6 or 8 would be a fun way to try out several items on the menu. For a table of 6, 2 or 3 starters from their awesome Street Food Menu to start followed by 3 or 4 mains would make for a very fun and tasty evening! They are also fully licensed should you wish to enjoy some beer, wine or cocktails.
Thank you Ice N Spice! See you again hopefully soon! (Sorry for not taking pictures or your beautiful food. It was so amazing that I tucked in before I thought about a photo op. LOL!)
PS: They're also on most of the home delivery apps so we will definitely be ordering in sometime in the...
Read moreCaution!! Be prepared to read the review because I had an amazing experience at Ice N Spice and I will praise them in every single sense I can.
So, me and my wife are always on lookout from good heart satisfying food and when you live in gta you have plenty options but to find THE ONE place is a long struggling ride.
We were recommended by one of our close friends to visit ICE N SPICE.
First experience: nice ambience, these guys kept it very casual without any of those big flashy Indian themes. Time for food: menu is huge and when I say huge it is HUGE. You name any Mainstream Indian dish they have it.
We ordered Dahi puri and veggie platter for appetizer and We were not disappointed in any ways. Dahi puri had all so unique flavours especially their green chutney. OMG!! Must to ask for. Veggie platter had great options, each item was unique with its own flavour to explore.
Let’s come to main-course. We order Dhabba chicken, Kadhai paneer, Garlic Naan. I haven’t aten anything with so close to Authentic back home style taste. My taste buds went on a rollercoaster ride and I got high on my food. It was just amazingly delicious.
I believe I have said less 😂 but these guys deserve every single word I have written.
At last I really thank Karan for giving us such a high level of service. You deserve all praise for your kind and generous service.
