We have passed by this location hundreds of time, but never thought of visiting. In the area, so decided to stop by. Lunch time in a Saturday so wasn’t that busy. The owners/managers knew by the questions we asked of this dish had any eggs/dairy/meat etc that our visit was the first. Spotless and clean inside and service was amazing.
Ordered a small channa and aloo (chickpeas and potatoes) roti roll with a paratha and a regular channa and aloo roti with daal roti and made that extra spicy and finally a veggie platter.
First the veggie platter we picked Okra, spinach, eggplant and raw jackfruit. The okra, spinach were really good and the eggplant was OK. The jackfruit (kathar/kathal) was the best. Would have loved more jackfruit pieces though and perhaps bigger chunks rather than tiny pieces.
The rotis were delicious. The chickpeas aloo top notch, but too runny to eat in a wrap. The extra spicy roti was hot! Good hot that stayed with me for a long time.
The owners threw in an order on phulories in the house as it was our first visit. They are the best we have ever had. A slight crunch on the out and soft inside. These ones had garlic and some herbs in them that was amazing. As if we were eating fried garlic bread! The tamarind chutney had perfect sourness with some sweetness. The phulories are way too...
Read moreTheir food USED to be so good! Lately not as good as it used to be (colder, less flavourful, smaller). We ordered jerk chicken bc it was the special and a roti. I clarified that we wanted the daily special (Since they were not upfront about this-most restaurants would let you know for an extra dollar you could get the regular size on special). The specials do not specify the sizes so make sure if you order a special you say you want the special, otherwise will be charged regular price apparently). When we arrived, I was told we would be getting the small and not the special bc they had already made it (before the end of our phone call? strange....). I didn't know it was so difficult to add rice and jerk chicken to make it the size we had ordered... I told her that's not what I ordered, she just made a face... She only fixed the issue when I refused to pay for the small for basically the same price, as this had all been sorted by the end of the phone order.
They always seem to run out of doubles and there are no signs or website updates for this.
I think it's time for us to find another place for roti even though we live just up the road......
Read moreVery busy place! Which is a good thing...when they come in droves, that means the food is amazing! I shared the roti's with friends; Boneless jerk chicken, curry goat & Channa & potato. All three were very good, amazing flavour, extremely filling. The one thing I noticed was that the regular curry goat was the same amount of meat as the small jerk chicken, just wrapped in a larger roti. There was A LOT of roti wrap left over. That aside, like I said, the flavour was there most definitely. I also ordered rice & peas but I specifically said, I ONLY want rice & peas if they provide gravy, which I was more than willing to pay for & I made sure it was understood about the gravy. She acknowledged me & seemed to know what I was asking for...not very complicating. Got rice & peas, no gravy and I wasn't charged for gravy either which was good...but I wouldn't have ordered the rice & peas if I knew they couldn't provide gravy & it was incredibly dry too. So that sucked. The line up was too long to complain. For those reasons, the EXTRA roti wrap & lack of gravy, I gave this place a 4/5. Will I go there again? Maybe...but there are others I...
