For anyone seeking authentic and flavourful Afghan cuisine in Toronto, Watan Kabob on Financial Drive is a standout destination. My recent visits have been consistently impressive, cementing its place as a personal favourite. This location manages to elevate the dining experience with its exceptional food, vast menu, and an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and vibrant.
The first thing that hits you at Watan Kabob is the incredible taste and quality of the food. The kabobs are the star of the show, grilled to perfection with a juicy, succulent texture that speaks to the freshness of the ingredients. Whether you opt for the spicy kick of the Tandoori Chicken or the rich, savoury taste of the beef kabobs, each bite is packed with authentic Afghan spices and flavour. The rice is always fluffy and aromatic, and the freshly baked naan is the perfect companion to soak up every last delicious bite. It’s clear that a lot of care and skill goes into preparing each dish.
One of the best things about Watan Kabob is the sheer variety on the menu. The options are truly huge, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences. From various kabob dinners featuring chicken, beef, and lamb, to flavourful wraps and fresh, crisp salads, there is something for everyone. For those looking to share, the generous family platters are an excellent choice, offering a fantastic sampling of their best offerings. This extensive selection makes it a great spot for groups, as everyone is sure to find a dish they'll love.
Beyond the delicious food, the atmosphere at the Financial Drive location is a significant draw. The restaurant itself is modern and spacious, with a clean and inviting décor that sets a comfortable tone for the meal. It attracts a pleasant and diverse crowd, creating a lively yet relaxed vibe that is perfect for a family dinner, a corporate lunch, or a casual meal with friends. The staff are friendly and efficient, managing to keep up even during busy periods, which speaks to the quality of the service.
In a city with no shortage of dining options, Watan Kabob on Financial Drive truly distinguishes itself. With its winning combination of fantastic food, an extensive menu, and a great atmosphere, it’s a place that I’m always happy to return to and would highly recommend to anyone craving a top-tier Afghan...
Read moreUpdate Easter / Ramadan / Passover Weekend Okay, it is a beautiful Easter Sunday. My usual fix of Starbucks is assumed. And right door is my fav Kebab restaurant.
I just love their food. I am a hug fan of any and all Middle Eastern food, spices and flavours. We are blessed to live a cohesive multi-cultural city.
Update: March 2021
Alright, alright, alright... I have returned many times now. I have tried the: Wazeri Kebob, Tandoori Kebob, Chicken Breast Kebob, Chopan ( Lamb Chop ) Kebob, Sultani Kebob and the Barg Kebob dinners.
I am impressed with the freshness, flavour profiles, savouriness and portions along with the efficient and courteous service. Their online ordering system is fantastic and easy to use.
My wife really enjoys their fresh cut fries sprinkled with Sumac and their chicken skewers.
A+++ experience all the way here folks. Treat yourself and give it a try and let us all know what you think. I have frequented their locations at Matheson and on Dundas/Winston Churchill.
I was excited to see that this location is so close to my home. And a welcome addition to the mall and it is almost next to Starbucks. So that scores extra brownie points here.
The food in my opinion is good. I had the Waziri Chicken dinner. The chicken was not dry, but moist and succulent. I enjoyed the kofta as well. The dinner portion is rather hefty. Perfect if you are extremely hungry. The dinner portion will not disappoint in my opinion.
I will return to check on the consistency. Because consistency is the hallmark of a long and prosperous restaurant with a loyal client base.
The same consistency with my wife’s chicken wrap. The chicken was tender and juicy.
I also ordered a ferni ( sweet rice pudding ). It was good but it could have used some more pistachios for a good crunchy texture to pair with the soft texture of the rice pudding.
The service was efficient and courteous. No issues here on a quiet Sunday morning just before noon.
A+ experience for me and because it is so close...
Read moreThe inside of the restaurant is quit spacious! The front entrance also has seating areas while you wait if you are doing take out. They seating are comfortable there are some padded seat areas which is quite comfortable to sit on for dinner! ..:) The lighting was good and beautiful chandelier. The ambiance is is perfect for family with children not for a business or client dinner. There are no servers it’s self serve.
Ordering: You order at the front of the restaurant and there are I think two or three order stations can’t remember exactly. The menu is display on screens similar to fast food restaurants displaying the dishes with pictures and pricing. There are no combos food does not come with drink that must be ordered separately in addition to. So ideally if you order a plate for $16 plus drink that takes you close to $20. You are given a receipt with an order number. If you are dining in there is a screen that display the order number and you would then go to collect your meal. For that price point I would say a good recommendation would be to have servers/employees check in with customers from time to time to see if there is anything else needed. This is very much like a McDonald’s fast food chain the way the ordering system is set up. Ideal for eating but not dining clients or survival occasions as there are no servers the ambiance would not be ideal. But for a family outing grabbing food then it’s great!
Food: All the dishes were prepared exactly as appeared in the picture. And large size portions. Served with free tea upon request or water.
Ambiance: The lighting was good and no loud music, which was great. Lots of people moving around with kids as there are no servers so customers can be seen getting up to grab food which makes it a bit noisy and busy.
Service and Time: Staff present well was clean and tidy dressed, no long dirty nails, their hair well kept, and their clothing tidy. Food was ready in a timely manner I would consider going again at some...
